UNITED HIT SEVEN GOALS TO WIN THE WELWYN DERBY

The Welwyn and Hatfield Sunday Football League unfortunately folded in 2017 after 57 years of football with many of the local teams now playing in the Herts Advertiser League which covers mainly the St Albans and Harpenden area.

FC Welwyn (formely Hedgehog FC) and Welwyn Garden United play in the East Herts Corinthian Sunday Football League Premier Division having both moved up from Division One last season. United finished top with FC in the runner's up position. Yesterday was the big Welwyn Derby game played at King George V playing fields.

The two sides had already played against each other in the opening game of the season where FC had won 2-0 thanks to goals from Joe Brunt and Lucas Thurgood but it was United who claimed the local bragging rights in some style with a comprehensive 7-1 victory with goals from Jordan Frowd, Adrain Hamill (2), Nathan Studholme (2) and Tyler Smith.

It was United's second win in their five league games played - they had lost 6-1 last weekend to Wormley based FC Infernos.

The only way is up now for FC Welwyn under the new management of Lucas and Jordan Thurgood  who did play well in the opening 30 minutes of the game yesterday only to concede two quick goals and then never got going again as the scoreline suggests. They host FC Alpha this coming Sunday with United on their travels to current table topper's Allenbury's. This will be a very tough game as they have won all seven of their league and cup games played so far - they beat FC Welwyn 10-0 on Saturday 13th October. They also beat United 2-6 in the Senior Divisional Shield in September.

If you're bored and frustrated of VAR seemingly removing all contact in the beautiful game take a look at some of the good old fashioned tackling in the video below from this game (already viewed 800 + times on twitter) and maybe even check out a Sunday League game near you soon. Keep scrolling down for the 14 minutes of full highlights of the game.

ALL SQUARE BETWEEN BUCKINGHAM ATHLETIC AND BRIMSDOWN

A late Jacob Williamson goal was enough for Buckingham Athletic to collect a point in a 1-1 draw at Brimsdown in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One on Saturday. The home side had scored in the first half via Albi Halil and had hit the post in the second half. All in all a point a piece was probably the right result in a game played in rainy horrible conditions throughout  the 90 minutes.

Athletic now have a league record of 3 wins, 2 draws and 5 defeats in their 10 games played. They have scored 21 goals and let in 26.

Brimsdown have 2 wins, 4 draws and 6 defeats in their 11 games played with 15 scored and 22 conceded.

Buckingham Athletic now have a busy run of five home games at Stratford Fields as follows -

Saturday 2nd November - Hillingdon Borough
Tuesday 5th November - Rayners Lane (Division One Cup)
Saturday 9th November - Wallingford Town (Berks & Bucks Senior Trophy)
Tuesday 12th November - London Lions
Saturday 16th November - Rayners Lane

Brimsdown, currently ground-sharing with BetVictor Isthmian League side Ware at Wodson Park have struggled to attract crowds with the following crowds recorded so far this season -

Rayners Lane - 31
Enfield Borough - 21
London Tigers - 10
Winslow United - 15
Bedford - 8
Stotfold - 31
Buckingham Athletic - 19
(Average - 19.28)

If you're free and about in the Ware area why not pay them a visit and give them some much needed support. Their next six games are on the road with their next game at Wodson Park coming on Saturday 30th November when Amersham Town visit. They have a midweek trip to fellow Division One side Ampthill Town in the League Challenge Trophy on Tuesday evening.

WANDERERS FC OPEN THEIR NEW HOME ON SATURDAY 2nd NOVEMBER 2019

The Cold End is really happy to bring you a fantastic piece of grass-root's football news as following a successful crowdfunding campaign Wanderers FC will be opening their new football pitch and home of the historic club on Saturday 2nd November. The pitch is at Virgo Fidelis School, Upper Norwood with the closest train station being Gipsy Hill - trains from London Bridge or London Victoria if you are coming from Central London.

Confirmed activities on the day are

* Two men's matches starting at 12 noon and 2pm.
* A youth tournament run by Brixistane FC from 3pm
* Match programmes and merchandise available to buy from our new MegaShed.
* Cash prize bingo game with up to £100 to be won.
* Live DJ performances by local radio talent.
* Better Fitness stall providing gym passes and goody bags for those who take on their fitness challenges.
* Harper Performance stall publicising the work they are doing to build football infrastructure in East Africa.
* Friends of Gipsy Hill stall promoting their community projects and selling merchandise

The pitch itself will be used by the students at Virgo Fidelis School which gives them the chance of establishing their own girl's football teams for the first time. The Norwood School will also be using the pitches for their competitive matches and PE lessons.

WANDERERS TAKE ON SPORTING 50 IN DECEMBER 2017

The club was reformed in 2009 and have competed in the Surrey South Eastern Combination since 2011 - they have achieved so much since then both on and off the pitch - the opening of the new pitch will be of benefit for many people in the local community and they now finally have a place they can call home.

The first incarnation of the club formed in 1859 famously won the FA Cup in 1872, 1873, 1876, 1877 and 1878 before being dissolved in 1887. The club's name comes from the fact they never officially had a home ground to call their own playing at various places in London firstly on Leyton flats close to what is now the Snaresbrook Crown Court. They also played at Kennington Oval, Vincent Square, Harrow, Harrow School, Clapham Common and Battersea Park.

Wanderers first team are currently unbeaten in the SSEC Junior Division One having played five league games so far winning three and drawing two. On Saturday they travel to Epsom and Ewell Colts.

Wanderers reserve team currently plays in the SSEC Junior Division Four - they travel to Oxted and District 'A' on Saturday.

Wanderers ladies team currently plays in the Greater London Women's Football League Division Three South. They host Tooting Bec Women this weekend on Sunday 27th October before travelling to Wandsworth Borough next weekend. They travel North of the River on Sunday 10th November to play Enfield Town 3rd XI in the Sue Sharples Memorial Trophy.

The trophy is named in memory of the Tottenham Hotspur Ladies FC Secretary and co-founder, who tragically died suddenly on 19th April 1994 at the young age of 32.

She also served as Assistant League Secretary for the Greater London League and played regularly for the Spurs Ladies reserve side.

It seems extremely fitting that there is a cup competition named in her memory to remember her loyal service to the league and the women's game in general.

THE MAGPIES WINNING RUNNING CONTINUES

The first two goals from the Colney Heath v Edgware Town game.

Colney Heath continued their fantastic form in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division with a 3-0 home win against Edgware Town thanks to goals from Sam Doolan, Chris Griffin and Lee Armitt. Full credit must go to the visitors who played very well and didn't just stick 10 men behind the ball - they left three players up on the halfway line at every corner kick the home side had.

Taking into account last season Colney Heath's winning run in league games now stretches back an incredible eleven games. They last dropped points in the 1-1 draw with Cockfosters back on Saturday 13th April which was an eventful game which had five red cards shown. Their last league defeat was on Saturday 9th March when they lost at Potton United 2-1.

Saturday 19th October - AYLESBURY VALE DYNAMOS - W 3-1

Despite their amazing record they aren't top of the SSMFL Premier Division - Tring Athletic are six points ahead but have played three more games than Colney Heath - The Magpie's 1-2 victory on the opening day of the season is Tring's only dropped points so far. The top of the table could look a little different by the middle of next week with fifth placed Oxhey Jets hosting both Newport Pagnell Town and Colney Heath in their next two games.

BREXIT HAPPENS - THE ROBINS ARE RAMPANT AT GOFFS LANE

THE NEW MILTON KEYNES ROBINS BADGE AND NAME HAD A NOD TO THE HISTORY OF BUCKINGHAM TOWN. THE CLUB WERE RE-NAMED IN JANUARY 2019 AFTER BUCKINGHAM TOWN HAD BEEN PLAYING AT MANOR FIELDS IN THE BLETCHLEY AREA OF THE TOWN.

FC Broxbourne Borough exited the the Spartan South Midlands League Division One Cup (hence BRexit happening) at the first round stage last night as the visiting MK Robins continued their run of excellent form with a dominant 0-6 win. The Robins victory sees them now 12 league and cup games unbeaten. They even had the luxury of having top scorer George Shrieves on the bench.

Mason Spence (MK Robins number 8) who is usually a full back played in an attacking midfield role and was the man of the match scoring a hat-trick and creating a number of other chances. The 24 year old started the season in the BetVictor North Division with Cambridge City and was making only his second start for The Robins. He was born in Milton Keynes and started as a professional with MK Dons and Colchester United - He has also played for Concord Rangers, St Neots Town, Stony Stratford Town, Hayes & Yeading United, Chelmsford City, Dunstable Town, Hitchin Town and Arlesey Town in his career so far.

Jamie Sylvester (2) and Jack Clarkson were the other scorers for the Robins.

For the home side it was a real evening to forget - they were unbeaten in 10 games previous to this one and like The Robins are still involved on the Road to Wembley in the Buildbase FA Vase.

Broxbourne host Rayners Lane on Saturday before a trip to Stotfold on Saturday 26th October - they then travel to Premier Division Leighton Town in the Vase Second Round.

HATFIELD TOWN CLOSE TO RESCUING A POINT AGAINST HODDESDON TOWN RESERVES

SEATS ARE AVAILABLE AT THE BIRCHWOOD LEISURE CENTRE BUT YOU'LL HAVE TO BE EARLY.

A goal in either half for Hoddesdon Town Reserves was enough for them to pick up an important three points at Hatfield Town yesterday afternoon. The win puts them up to second place in the league table below Sandridge Rovers who won 4-0 at home to Ware Sports. New River Athletic who were top on Saturday morning lost 0-1 at home to Cockfosters Reserves.

On a wet and horrible day weather wise the home side played well in spells and could of (and I think very unlucky not to) rescued a point with a late goal and then a free kick from outside the box which rebounded of the angle of post and bar.

Club Chairman and Manager Johnny Shearer (who took over the running of the club in the summer) was missing today but he had a very good reason - He became a father at 4.45am on Saturday morning. Congratulations to him and his family on the new arrival.

The Blue Boys travel to Bush Hill Rangers next weekend before hosting Division One cub Buntingford Town in the Aubery Cup on Saturday 26th October.

Below are details of how you can get involved in sponsorship of the club - If you are a local business please get in contact and help The Blue Boys out.

A GREAT DAY FOR REAL HAYNES AS 196 PEOPLE WATCH THEM WIN 7-0 AGAINST BLUNHAM

A crowd of 196 people attended the special Bedfordshire County League ground-hop game yesterday morning as Real Haynes welcomed Blunham to the Haynes Village Playing Field for a Division Three supported by Hy-Pro fixture. Despite the wet weather people were good in spirits prior to the 10.30am kick off visitng the bar which was serving beer and breakfast along with the badge and programme stall doing good business.

Real Haynes were formed in 2018 by Gary Sales as part of his recovery from Bladder Cancer and their first team finished in fifth placed of Division Three last season with their reserves finishing in 15th place of the same division - They lost all 28 league games last season letting in 179 goals - this season it's been a better one for them with a first win a few weeks back 4-2 against Kempston Rovers and a second victory coming yesterday afternoon 4-1 against Bedford Albion 'A'.

The village of Haynes has a rich footballing history with Haynes Village and Haynes Athletic with the former winning the league title in 1970 with just 13 players all of whom were from the village.

The home side were much the better side against yesterday and won comfortably 7-0 with Aaron Lumsden scoring a hat-trick as well as missing a penalty which was well saved by Blunham keeper Dom Higgins. Blunham didn't give up and played their part in an entertaining game - they'll win a league game sooner rather than later I think.

Most importantly lots of money was also raised for the Fight Bladder Cancer charity.

Below are Real's first goal and the penalty miss/save along with some match pictures.

A PROUD DAY FOR GARY SALES (WHO LOOKS ON IN THE CAP) AND ALL ASSOCIATED WITH REAL HAYNES FOOTBALL CLUB.

The loss leaves Blunham on played five and lost five in league games which has included a 14-0 defeat at Stopsley United on Saturday 21st September but they did follow this up with a 17-2 victory in the Beds FA Junior Cup against Division Four side Revivalists on Saturday 28th September which has to go down as two of the most random results ever in football!

They host MD&H Clapham Sports next Saturday before welcoming another Division Four side in White Eagles in the next round of the Beds Junior Cup.

Real Haynes host Luton Allstars next weekend before a trip to Caddington in the Beds Junior Cup.

The best of luck to both sides for the rest of the season!
