It was a debut to remember for AFC Welwyn yesterday as they welcomed Milton Keynes Irish Reserves to The Pexhurst Stadium for a Spartan South Midlands League Division Two game in front of 105 people. It was Charlee Yearwood who signed from Baldock Town Reserves over the summer who made the headlines. He is a tall, powerful centre forward who has scored a huge number of goals for his former club over the past few seasons. He didn't take long to find the back of the net as he nipped in and stole the ball away from a MK defender to finish on 5 minutes. I have written before he could play at a higher level of football and there is still no reason in my opinion he couldn't - If he continues his scoring form this season they'll surely be teams looking at him but for now he is a AFC Welwyn player.
It was an afternoon to remember for him as he netted a further four goals in an 8-1 victory with Kendall Gyamfi scoring twice along with Josh Grantham getting one. Yearwood's second goal is well worth a watch when AFC Welwyn publish the highlights on their social media pages.
Gyamfi is afraid of scoring goals either - The former Hendon FC youth player was with Cheshunt, FC Romania and Arlesey Town last season. He is currently dual registered with Southern League Premier Division South side Hendon.
AFC Welwyn host The 61 FC (Luton) on Tuesday evening who lost their opening game 0-3 at home to New Bradwell St Peter. MK Irish Reserves get to put this result behind them with a home a game against Aston Clinton on Tuesday evening - Aston drew 1-1 at home to Codicote yesterday.
