WESTON AND SHEFFORD TOWN & CAMPTON SHARE SIX GOALS

Hertfordshire Senior County League Premier Division side Weston welcomed Shefford Town and Campton to The Recreation Ground tonight. Both sides played at Step Seven of the non-league pyramid last season with Weston finishing 12th in their division and Shefford winning the Bedfordshire County Football League Premier Division thus earning promotion to the Spartan South Midlands League Division One.

Over the summer it's been a change in management for the home side with Jack Gregson moving to Stotfold to take up a role as player/coach alongside his brother Luke who is the new manager of The Eagles.

Former Baldock Town, Codicote and Langford player Louis Woodley is the new man in charge who will be assisted by Phillip Hill.

Six goals were shared on a boiling hot evening with lots of water being taken on board by the players, management and spectators watching. Shefford scored an early penalty only for Weston to equalise also from the penalty spot. The home side then had a really good spell scoring two very well taken goals with the visitors scoring in between these to make the half time score 3-2.  Weston's second goal was an impressive low curling finish from the edge of the box which crept inside the post and the third was the player (name to follow) completing his hat-trick when he controlled the ball down well and took on a number of defenders before slotting the ball into the net.

Shefford had their chances to equalise both before and after half time and did make it 3-3 when with a header from just inside the box. Just prior to this Weston had a good shout for another penalty when the ball was knocked back across goal from a long diagonal pass - with the goal open the Weston player went down under a challenge from a defender. There was a big shout and appeal but the referee waved play on.

It was a really entertaining game for a pre-season friendly with both sides taking many positives and also some things to work on prior to their season proper kicking off in the coming weeks.

No highlights tonight but there are some photographs of the game below.

The Hertfordshire County League fixtures are yet to be released so I can't tell you who Weston play in their opening game. Shefford kick off their SSMFL Division One campaign with a trip to Amersham Town on Saturday 3rd August before entertaining Wodson Park on Saturday 10th August.

THE BEST OF LUCK TO BOTH SIDES FOR THE FORTHCOMING SEASON!
