GREAT DEFENSIVE PERFORMANCE FROM KIDDY TO TAKE A POINT AT WELWYN GARDEN CITY

It was Southern League Division One (Central) action in the week before Christmas as the game between Welwyn Garden City and Kidlington was one of the only games on in the local area. The visitors who made the trip from Oxfordshire have been struggling this season winning just three of their nineteen league games going into this game with The Citizens in with a chance of making the top five as they had won ten of seventeen games played.

The visitors were also missing a number of regular first team players so it was the home side who were favourites to win the game. They dominated possession but found The Greens fighting for every ball and playing very well in defence.

George Ironton scored a cracking goal for the home side to make it 1-0 on 23 minutes and the score stayed the same until the 71st minute when a free kick was floated into the box and nodded down for Ryan Knight to poke the ball home at the far post to the delight of the small number of away fans in the crowd of 114.

Kidlington's luck didn't last until after Christmas as they lost 7-0 at North Leigh today - they host fellow struggler's Wantage Town on Saturday in an all important 'relegation six pointer' game.
