BARTON ROVERS THROUGH TO FACE HASHTAG UNITED IN THE EMIRATES FA CUP - VICTORY ALSO WINS THEM THE JOHN MILTON PLATE

It was Emirates FA Cup replay time on Tuesday evening as Arlesey Town welcomed local rival's Barton Rovers to New Lamb Meadow - the game at Sharpenhoe Road had ended 1-1 on Saturday with Arlesey's Stuart Mortimer scoring an equaliser in the 86th minute to Tony Burnett's 66th minute goal for the home side.

This was a Step 5 v Step 4 game and it was the higher ranked side who were the better side. In the first half it was a case of two free kicks lofted into the area and two headers from Lewis Thomas to make it 0-2 at the break.

Arlesey Town played some good football and kept possession well with their stand out performer being former Stotfold, Kempston Rovers and Harpenden Town player Jake Davis (see video below) who played on the right of midfield and switched to the left with around 15 minutes to go.

They were unable to create any really decent chances but I think the signs are there that new manager Nick Brown is building a good squad and they'll do okay this season.

Kenny Watson added a third goal for the visitors on 76 minutes to make the final score 0-3.

The win sees Barton Rovers take The John Milton Plate which is awarded to the winner of the game when the two local rival's play. The trophy is named after the late John Milton who was chairman of both clubs.

142 people were in attendance which was up on the 112 figure from Saturday's game.

Barton Rovers now have an eagerly anticipated game at home to Isthmian North side Hashtag United who are likely to bring a good number of fans with them to the game which is scheduled to take place on Saturday 20th August.

Arlesey Town travel to Colney Heath in the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division tomorrow. Rovers have another local derby when they welcome AFC Dunstable in their first Southern League Central Division game of the season.
