EVENTFUL GAME ENDS ALL SQUARE BETWEEN WARE AND HANWELL TOWN

There were a few talking points in yesterday's Bostik League South Central Division game between Ware and Hanwell Town. Going into the game the hosts were six points below the play off zone in eighth place with the visitors in twelfth place a further five points back.

Ware took the lead through a well taken goal from Brandon Adams who has been prolific in front of goal for the Hertfordshire side since moving from Premier Division side Enfield Town in November - His goal was his eleventh in as many games. You'll see from the replay that the ball did cross the line and bounce back out from the metal post at the rear of the nets that many of the mobile goals have on 3g pitches - more on this later.

Prior to the goal Ware keeper Calum Kitscha (who has played at Step 2 for Histon and Hayes & Yeading United) was lucky when he appeared to handle the ball just outside the box with the Hanwell forward Cameron Duffy was put through on goal. The Assistant Referee flagging Duffy offside made sure Kitscha breathed a sigh of relief.

Both sides played some good football with Albert Adu looking particularly good with some good touches playing between the front and midfield for Ware.

Hanwell's right back Kieron Cathline caught my eye too in the first half making some great forward runs into the Ware half but frustratingly for Hanwell the ball wasn't released to him. He thought he got his reward for his hard work when on a run into the box he was challenged by Ware's full back Williams Danquah - Was is a foul? Lots of people on twitter have had their say after watching the clip I put up.

PENALTY INCIDENT

Special mention must go to Ware's centre-back Gareth Madden who played on with a cut sustained above his eye early in the game up until the 40th minute when he was replaced by Leigh Rose.

On 53 minutes Hanwell scored to make it 1-1 which was a goal much talked about and debated by many fans present in the 112 crowd. As first sight the ball appeared to have hit the post but with the away players adamant it had crossed the line and bounced off the metal bar on the goal behind the referee waved away players and consulted with his assistant. Nearly a minute and a half after the incident a goal was awarded - Watching the replay I still can't tell if it crossed the line or not? With 3g pitches becoming more and more popular I think the leagues may have to look at normal goals (and not mobile ones) being placed on the pitches to stop this sort of incident happening - Lots of fans have contacted me about recent incidents. The diagonal stanchions behind each post may be the main source of the problem (pictured below).

COULD & SHOULD LEAGUES BRING IN RULES TO HAVE NON-MOBILE SUNKEN GOALS ON 3G PITCHES TO STOP INCIDENTS LIKE YESTERDAY'S HAPPENING?

HANWELL'S SECOND GOAL

Harvey Killeen made it 1-2 to Hanwell a shortwhile later with a neat finish past Kitscha only for Ware to make it 2-2 via Dave Cowley after a great cross from Brandon Adams.

Hanwell were reduced to 10 men on 74 minutes when Dan Julienne got a second yellow card for a more clumsy looking challenge than malicious. It could of been 3-2 when Danquah defended well at right back to put the ball forward to Cowley who found Adams whose shot was well saved Aaron Bufton.

Ware boss Paul Halsey takes his side to one of his former sides Hertford Town on Tuesday evening in what should be a hotly contested East Hertfordshire derby. The blues parted company with boss Gavin Kelsey today after their 8-1 defeat to free scoring table topper's Hayes and Yeading United yesterday. Hanwell Town entertain Waltham Abbey in midweek who lost 0-3 at home to Chipstead yesterday which put a dent in their play-off hopes.

It was great to see a good crowd of 112 in attendance on a chilly day - this was Ware's fourth best crowd of the season beaten only by the 173 that saw their FA Cup game against Lowestoft Town and their league local derby games against Cheshunt (167) and Hertford Town (272).
