It was derby day in the Herts Senior County League Premier Division on Saturday 29th April as Welwyn Garden City Development made the short journey to play Colney Heath Reserves. The home side went into the game on a five game losing run where they had suffered defeats to Chipperfield Corinthians, Belstone, Royston Town u23, Sandridge Rovers and Buntingford Town.
Welwyn had recently beaten Cuffley 3-2 and drawn 0-0 at home to Sandridge Rovers - they also still have a chance of silverware with an Aubery Cup Semi-Final coming up against Ware Sports.
Colney Heath's first team recently won 1-2 at Potton United on the last day of the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division season to preserve their step five status and prevent a second relegation in as many seasons. They parted company with manager George Georgiou today and are on the look out for a new boss for the 23/24 campaign. On this showing The Magpies have some promising young players to look at as do The Citizens.
For Welwyn Garden City Vinny Clarke put a very impressive performance in the centre of midfield. He was full of running, closes players down and gives them no space, likes a tackle, can leave his foot in when required and put in many positive forward runs during the game.
The visitors were unlucky not to come away with all three points as they hit the bar twice but it the end it finished all square at 1-1.
