At this stage of the season if your football team is challenging for the title every fan and manager will tell you it doesn't matter how good the performance is as long as the three points are in the bag after 90 minutes. This was one of those occasions as Town never really clicked or hit 100% against a Chatham Town side who came to Donkey Lane and put in a decent hard working performance passing the ball around well at times. Despite The Chats playing some decent soccer they didn't trouble Noel Imber in the Town goal aside from a good chance just prior to Rudi Hall's fantastic strike which made it 2-0.
Town had gone 1-0 up in the first half via an Own Goal from a set-piece and made the score line 3-0 in injury time through Dean Pennant following good work by Neil Johnston and Adam Wallace.
Town's back four of Jey Siva, Craig McKay, Dave Kendall and Lee Allen all put in good performances but it was Rudi Hall who was very busy in the first half to go with his goal of the season contender who picked up the man of the mach award.
Elsewhere tonight Redbridge recorded a good 2-1 at home to Harlow Town thus putting a dent in The Hawks own title ambitions and Leiston got a valuable 1-0 win away at Thamesmead Town to stay top of the table. Down at the bottom of the table Great Wakering Rovers won a very important game at Ware by 2 goals to nil with the other game finishing Waltham Abbey 5 Soham Town Rangers w.
SELECTED MATCH HIGHLIGHTS ARE BELOW including all three goals
