The Cold End is really happy to bring you a fantastic piece of grass-root's football news as following a successful crowdfunding campaign Wanderers FC will be opening their new football pitch and home of the historic club on Saturday 2nd November. The pitch is at Virgo Fidelis School, Upper Norwood with the closest train station being Gipsy Hill - trains from London Bridge or London Victoria if you are coming from Central London.

Confirmed activities on the day are

* A youth tournament run by Brixistane FC from 3pm

WANDERERS TAKE ON SPORTING 50 IN DECEMBER 2017

The club was reformed in 2009 and have competed in the Surrey South Eastern Combination since 2011 - they have achieved so much since then both on and off the pitch - the opening of the new pitch will be of benefit for many people in the local community and they now finally have a place they can call home.

The first incarnation of the club formed in 1859 famously won the FA Cup in 1872, 1873, 1876, 1877 and 1878 before being dissolved in 1887. The club's name comes from the fact they never officially had a home ground to call their own playing at various places in London firstly on Leyton flats close to what is now the Snaresbrook Crown Court. They also played at Kennington Oval, Vincent Square, Harrow, Harrow School, Clapham Common and Battersea Park.

Wanderers first team are currently unbeaten in the SSEC Junior Division One having played five league games so far winning three and drawing two. On Saturday they travel to Epsom and Ewell Colts.

Wanderers reserve team currently plays in the SSEC Junior Division Four - they travel to Oxted and District 'A' on Saturday.

Wanderers ladies team currently plays in the Greater London Women's Football League Division Three South. They host Tooting Bec Women this weekend on Sunday 27th October before travelling to Wandsworth Borough next weekend. They travel North of the River on Sunday 10th November to play Enfield Town 3rd XI in the Sue Sharples Memorial Trophy.

The trophy is named in memory of the Tottenham Hotspur Ladies FC Secretary and co-founder, who tragically died suddenly on 19th April 1994 at the young age of 32.

She also served as Assistant League Secretary for the Greater London League and played regularly for the Spurs Ladies reserve side.

It seems extremely fitting that there is a cup competition named in her memory to remember her loyal service to the league and the women's game in general.
