AN IMPORTANT VICTORY FOR WARE SENDS THEM TOP OF THE LEAGUE

Ware went top of the BetVictor South-Central Division with a 2-1 victory against Tooting and Mitcham United yesterday afternoon. The Terrors were much the better side for long periods of the game and went 0-1 up on a windy and rainy day with the effects of Storm Dennis being felt around Wodson Park. Daryl Coleman scored the opening goal on 28 minutes and the visitors had a great chance to make it 0-2 when awarded a penalty kick for an apparent handball in the box. Ware keeper Callum Kitscha saved the resulting kick from Danny Bassett who then received the ball from the rebound and stuck the ball high over the bar with the goal open from close range - nine times out of ten the ball would of ended up in the back of the net! Kitscha made a number of good saves in the first half as the home side struggled to adapt to the blustery conditions.

In front of 172 people Ware fought back in the second half and it was Leigh Rose who made it 1-1 on 59 minutes. Josh Williams then received the ball in the box from Liam Hope and was able to make it 2-1 on 86 minutes the delight of the home support.

The win puts Paul Halsey's side top of the table - two points ahead of Hanwell Town whose game was postponed yesterday.

HUGE RESPECT TO THE TOOTING AND MITCHAM UNITED FANS WHO MADE THE TRIP FROM SOUTH LONDON TO HERTFORDSHIRE YESTERDAY AND STOOD IN THE RAIN SUPPORTING THEIR TEAM.

Ware's next game is away to Northwood next Saturday who are bottom of the table but have recently changed managers and also recruited a number of new players. Hanwell Town are home to fifth placed Waltham Abbey next weekend - The Abbotts won 7-3 at home to Chalfont St Peter yesterday with seven different goal scorers.

The Terrors are now four points off of fifth place - If they play as well as they did yesterday in their remaining 14 games they have a real chance of finishing in a play-off place. They travel to South Park (15th) on Tuesday evening before another away trip to Barking (10th) next Saturday.

PAUL HALSEY (PICTURED IN 2016 WHEN MANAGING RIVAL'S HERTFORD TOWN) HAS DONE A TREMENDOUS JOB AT WARE - THEY HAVE A REAL CHANCE OF WINNING THE LEAGUE TITLE THIS SEASON AND WITH IT PROMOTION TO THE ISTHMIAN PREMIER DIVISION.
