NO GOALS BETWEEN BIGGLESWADE FC AND LEIGHTON TOWN

Biggleswade FC welcomed Leighton Town to Langford Road last night for a Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division game. The visitors have had a topsy-turvy sort of season and were placed in fifteen place prior to kick off with seven wins from nineteen games played. FC were third and are in with a real chance of winning the title although their last three league games had been drawn against Biggleswade United, Stotfold and Oxhey Jets.

Both goalkeepers weren't called into action much during the game with both teams working hard in defence and midfield. The best chances for Leighton Town came when a header from a corner was cleared off the line in the first half and Lewis McBride's shot from the edge of the box looped over the bar in the second half. Fc had the ball in the net via a Pat McCafferty header in the box which was ruled out for offside.

In the second half there were several bookings given out in what became an increasingly  scrappy game which won't live long in the memory on the 95 people watching on a cold Befordshire evening. Leighton's defender Kyle Davison-Gordon was red carded on 83 minutes following a late challenge which the referee deemed a second bookable offence.

I was once again impressed with FC's Spanish defender Benat Pena who looks a fantastic player. He's calm with the ball at his feet and also gets stuck in when he has too. I think he could play at a higher level in the future. He was FC's Captain last night and did a great job.

In summary the visitors will be very pleased in taking a point against one of the title challengers with FC frustrated at drawing their third league game in a row - With seventeen games still to play they are still in a great position to challenge for the title.
