HASHTAG VICTORY MOVES THEM BACK TOP OF THE TABLE

TOM WILLIAM'S CHALLENGE ON LUKE SKINNER EARLY IN THE GAME

Halstead Town ended Harwich and Parkeston's incredible twelve match winning record with a 2-0 win on Friday night to put themselves top of the Thurlow Nunn First Division South on Friday evening which meant today's game between second placed Hashtag United and third placed White Ensign was arguably the most important game of the season so far for both sides.

It was a highly entertaining first half which at times threatened to boil over at times with Hashtag's Tom Williams challenge on White Ensign's Luke Skinner in the opening moments causing a little bit of pushing between players. The former professional, most known for his time with Peterborough United, was booked after the incident.

HASHTAG'S FORMER REDBRIDGE AND EAST THURROCK UNITED DEFENDER SIMON PEDDIE (2) GOES UP FOR A HEADER FROM ONE OF THEIR MANY FIRST HALF CORNERS

Hashtag's Jack Harrison was then booked for a high footed challenge on Bradley Gates which some people standing close to where I was thought could even have been a red card offence.

The home side were much the more dominant and forced a number of corners with Harry Honesty causing lots of problems with his pace and trickery on the left hand side. Just before the half hour mark it was 1-0 when Ensign defender Dave Limber clipped Neil Richmond inside the box, who was through on goal, for a penalty kick to be given. Honesty scored the resulting spot kick to the delight of most of the 150 crowd watching the game at Coles Park.

TWO PLAYERS WHO IMPRESSED ME ON THE DAY WERE HASHTAG'S LEFT MIDFIELDER/WINGER HARRY HONESTY AND WHITE ENSIGN'S LEFT BACK THANDO MOYO. MOYO SHOWED A GREAT TOUCH A FEW TIMES - I THINK HE MIGHT BE BETTER USED FURTHER UP THE PITCH FOR HIS SIDE.

When the visitors did get the ball forward they only really had half chances with Luke Skinner and Dom Locke having the ball to feet in the box but for Hashtag keeper Jamie Jackson to slide out to claim the ball well and with authority.

It was 2-0 on 42 minutes when former Thurrock and Tilbury player Ross Gleed was put through on a quick break from a White Ensign corner to slot the ball home past Tim Pitman.

Not long after the score got worse for the visitors when Honesty put a fantastic ball across from the left hand side for Neil Richmond to tap home a third for the home side.

With the half time score 3-0 it was going to be very difficult for the visitors to get back into the game and the second half played in the rain was mostly a non-event with only a few real chances created.

White Ensign did have a few efforts to score with skillful midfielder Jack McWee (who has played for Tilbury in the Bostik League) unlucky from a free kick which nearly caught out Jackson in the Hashtag goal  and Locke's powerful shot pushed over the bar.

Hashtag manager Jay Deveraux will be very pleased with the result and the performance from his side particularly the first half. The win puts them back top of the table three points ahead of Halstead Town.
