#BGT - BELSTONE'S GOT TALENT

MATCH PLAYED ON TUESDAY 30th MAY

The Hashtag of #BGT has been very popular this week on social media with the ITV programme being talked about by many people but maybe it could stand for 'Belstone's Got Talent' as the Hertfordshire Senior County League side have had an amazing season - they have won the Anagram Records Trophy as well as being runner's up in The Normal Appleby Cup and Herts FA Senior Centenary Trophy. Their 1-0 victory in this game against Sandridge Rovers saw them finish in second place of the Herts Senior County Premier Division just two points behind champion's Bush Hill Rangers.

Ryan Hope scored the only goal of the game with a low driven shot from outside of the box in the first half. It was the 47th game of their season which is some effort for a club with no floodlights! The home side had much of the possession but Sandridge Rovers had chances to score and were reasonably unlucky not to get anything from this game. For the 2023/24 season they'll be under the management of Daren Till and Jamie Derby after the recent departure of Matty Day to Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division side Colney Heath.

This is the first time in all my years of following local football I have visited The Medburn Ground in Radlett and what a wonderful place it is to watch The Beautiful Game with the playing surface very impressive.

Belstone Football Club were originally based in Wembley at the GEC London Sports Ground when they were formed in 1983. They moved to Harrow College and then Headstone Lane for a few years before moving to their current home with had been a rugby pitch since just after The First World War. The ground had not been used for a few years prior to Belstone moving there in 1992. A clubhouse and changing have since been added along with a second pitch in 2012.

The club are named Belstone Football Club as when they were formed many of their players either came from the Belmont or Wealdstone area of Middlesex.

  1. This is an example of how a grassroots club should be run. The club always reminds me why we love the game of football and if you are looking for a club to support you could do no better than Belstone FC.
