FC ROMANIA WIN AWAY FOR THE FIRST TIME THIS SEASON - VALUABLE THREE POINTS COLLECTED AT BARTON ROVERS

It's been an eventful season for FC Romania already and we are only in November. The club saw a change in ownership in July with businessman and entrepreneur Stefan Voloseniuc, who had stepped in with sponsorship in the summer of 2020, parted company with the club. He had been involved when Manager Ion Vintila said the club may fold due to lack of sponsorship and support two years ago.

Che Stadhart was Manager at the start of the season but recently left the club to be replaced by Terry Spillane and John Mackie who had won the Essex Senior League with Walthamstow in 21/22. It was a shock to many people in the local non-league game when it was announced they had departed The Stow in mid-September.

They were appointed joint Managers at FCR on Friday 30th September.

Spillane is very well known in local football having been boss at Aveley, Maldon & Tiptree, Thamesmead Town, Stanway Rovers, Redbridge and Stansted.

Mackie, a former professional with Leyton Orient, Brentford and Reading, left the club after only a few weeks leaving Spillane in sole charge.

Former Arlesey Town Manager Chico Ramos has recently joined the coaching staff at the club.

Barton Rovers have also seen a change in management with Tony Fontanelle recently departing and the joint managerial duo of Jermiane Hall and Leon Cashman coming in.

Going into this game they had just one win in their fifteen league games played.

This was Cashman and Hall's second game in charge having lost 3-0 at Hadley on Saturday.

Newman Carney who has played for Baldock Town and AFC Dunstable this season was in the starting XI having made his Barton Rover's debut in the Hadley game. Defender Jemale Olyinka and goalkeeper Lee Axworth-Duggan made their Rover's debuts.

Winger Reece Crowter has left the club to join Spartan South Midlands League side Arlesey Town along with striker Temi Akinbusoye who has moved back to his former club Stotfold. He netted a hat-trick in their 0-5 win at Ardley United on Saturday.

Going into the game just six points separated the two sides with FC Romania in 17th place on 12 points. They had only one draw and seven defeats in their eight away games - they were on a run of six defeats in a row away from home.

It was a scrappy game with Barton taking the lead on 9 minutes via Lewis Horn-Hayes only for Mitchell May to equalise for the away side on 20 minutes. Horn-Hayes had to be substituted only a shortwhile after his goal as he went off with an injury.

In the second half FC Romania were awarded a free kick to the left of the penalty box. The ball was lifted into the box for Olyinka to attempt to clear the ball only for it to be lifted high in the air and drop down into the net to make it 1-2. It was a really strange own-goal and you certainly won't see another like it - Have a look at the replay below.

With around ten minutes to go Newman Carney rattled the cross bar with a fantastic shot from just inside the box.

FC Romania defended well to record their first win on their travels since they won 2-4 at Didcot Town in March.

The player who stood out for me was left winger Gael Kileba for FC Romania. He is only 20 years old and looks a very good player having played in West Ham United's academy. He could certainly make the step up the non-league pyramid in my opinion.

Not much has been written about FC Romania's squad this season so I've written up a little bit of information below.

Barton Rovers host 4th placed Didcot Town on Saturday with FC Romania make the trip to Welwyn Garden City. Didcot lost 2-0 at league leader's Berkhamsted on Tuesday night with The Citizens losing 3-1 at AFC Dunstable last weekend.

A crowd of 75 people saw the game which is the lowest for a league game at Sharpenhoe Road since an attendance of 51 saw them lost 1-2 to Didcot Town in November 2018
