The final game of the Herts Senior County League season was played last night in a Division One game between Hertford United and Standon & Puckeridge. United hadn't been in action since their 5-1 win over Old Parmiterians on Saturday 14th May with Standon drawing 0-0 at Hatfield United on the same day.
The game was played at The County Ground in Letchworth and wasn't one to write home about - It looked destined to end 0-0 only for Standon & Puckeridge to pop up with a late winner with a rocket of a shot from close range which Hertford keeper Jack Galatis got a hand to but couldn't keep out of the net.
There was another incident after the goal which at the time no supporter or player thought was controversial - There was challenge in the box from a S&P player which I thought at the time was a great tackle but the replay had divided the internet on twitter with some saying it should of been given as a penalty and others preferring that it was a great challenge. I've watched it numerous times and still can't decide - The incident shows what a difficult job a referee has as they have one look at it in real time to make a decision and we fans look at replays multiple times and still can't make out mind's up? RESPECT THE REFS!!
Hertford had had most of the possession during the game and made the best chances but never really troubled former Hertford Town goalkeeper Ina Aamagbe into making any spectacular saves.
In the final Division One table Hertford United finish 8th on 40 points from 28 games played with S&P on 34 points in 10th place.
