STOTFOLD 2 RUSHDEN & HIGHAM UNITED 1
SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS LEAGUE DIVSION ONE
ATTENDANCE - 181
MATCH PLAYED ON TUESDAY 2nd NOVEMBER
The visitors really went so close to picking up an unexpected point on their trip to table topper's Stotfold as a wonderful Lewis McMahon goal put them 0-1 up at half time only for home side to come back and pick up the three points with two late goals from Devonte Simms and Connor Clarke on a deceptively chilly Bedfordshire night.
Stotfold have since gone on to lose 4-1 at title rival's Winslow United, 1-3 at Premier Division side Arlesey Town in the League Challenge Cup (in front of an amazing 266 crowd) and 5-1 at home to Bedford last Saturday in front of an even more impressive attendance of 392 at The JSJ Stadium.
Rushden's keeper Kyle Swailes (pictured above) had a fantastic game and was unlucky to be on the losing side. Their up and down form this season was highlighted with their 0-7 home defeat to Buckingham Athletic in their next game followed by a 3-2 win over struggling Irchester United on Saturday.
I stood by R&H's bench for the game and was very impressed by their coaching staff - they didn't shout and just gave clear instruction and encouragement to all of their players which was refreshing to see.
