ARLESEY TOWN THROUGH AGAINST NINE MEN FC PARSON DROVE

NEW ARLESEY TOWN BOSS CHICO RAMOS (courtesy of @ArleseyTownFC)

It was Step Five playing Step Seven in the Hinchingbrooke Cup Quarter-Final last night as Spartan South Midlands Premier Division Arlesey Town welcomed FC Parson Drove on the Chromasport Peterborough and District Premier Division. The home side were under the caretaker management of Len McMain and Jason Darvall for the final time as it was announced after the game that Chico Ramos has been given the managers job - He has most recently been coaching at Essex Senior League side Walthamstow.

Arlesey Town looked the better side earlier in the game with Ryan Lamond having a good chance to score only for Tom Roberts to make a fantastic save on the goal line.

It was 1-0 when James Hatch scored with a header and then 2-0 when Aedan Gaffney scored from the spot kick. Jamie Stevens was red-carded in between the foul (he wasn't the offending player) and the penalty. He used foul and abusive language towards the referee who sent him off.

In the second half Parson Drove got back into the game for a short period when Joe Reed finished off a lovely passing move to make it 2-1.

The away side were reduced to nine men when Jack Mockford was given a second yellow following an untidy sliding challenge which gave the home side the advantage. They were unable to score any more with the closest they came being rattling the cross bar from a shot from outside of the box.

I was impressed by young central defender Jardell Stirling of Arlesey Town who has played in the academy and youth section of Luton Town - He looks a good player who is calm and composed on the ball - Definitely a name to look out for.

FULL TIME 2-1
Attendance - 43

MATCH HIGHLIGHTS

RESPECT THE REFEREE

I still don't know much information about The Hinchingbrooke Cup but can confirm the historic trophy was donated by The Earl of Sandwich way back in 1894 and it's an invitation charity cup competition which brings together clubs from a number of different counties and competitions. Clubs from Step Five of the non-league pyramid downwards are invited and have to be within a 30 or 50 mile radius of Huntingdon (I still can't get this confirmed) - Parson Drove is a 30 mile journey and is in between Peterborough and Wisbech.
