It was Division One v Premier Division in the Spartan South Midlands League Challenge Trophy Third Round on Tuesday evening as in form Leighton Town visited Shefford Town and Campton.
The home side were much the better side in the first half with Sam King on the left wing looking very impressive and skillful and creating most of Shefford's chances - they should of been one or two goals up at the break but the score remained 0-0 with visitor's goalkeeper Daniel Benney keeping his side in the game.
The game swung on a red card decision on 50 minutes when Shefford's Ryan Lewis was dismissed for a challenge on Kudakwashe Butawo that has divided many people's opinions on social media as you'll see from the below comments.
"Two footed tackle, dangerous in my opinion for what it’s worth, red card!"
"No foul No penalty - Leighton lucky here with both decisions" - regarding the penalty decision
"Red card, clearly endangered the safety of the player with no control over his movements.
Penalty."
"Red card harsh, 6 must have needed an oxygen mask after that sprint to the ref. Defo penalty though"
"two footed tackle what you must bad eye sight.. the ball first and then the player."
"Both absolutely awful decisions, yellow card at best... and the player went down far too easy #shockingrefereeing!"
Gradually Leighton Town got back into the game with Ben Pattie a real handful up front at time and were awarded a penalty kick with only a few minutes to go which Danny Webb scored to make the final score 0-1. A crowd of 27 people saw the game.
