It was Cup action on Saturday at Birchwood as Hatfield United welcomed Hemel Rovers for a Hertfordshire FA Intermediate Cup Second Round game. Both sides have had excellent starts to their seasons - this was a Hertfordshire Senior County League Division One v Division Two game.
United had won four, drawn one and lost one of their league games and currently top the Division One table with their last league game being a big 11-0 victory over Edgware & Kingsbury Reserves. They had lost 3-0 in the Aubery Cup First Round to fellow Division One side Evergreen last weekend.
Rovers have been in great form with some big wins - they have a 9-2 win over Hinton & Finchley Revolution u23, a 2-8 win at Hatfield Athletic and a 6-0 win against Chesham United Generals in the league as well as a 0-9 win over Division One side Old Parmiterians in the First Round of this competition.
On a blustery day it was Hemel Rovers who won having gone 0-2 up via close range efforts from corners only for United to make it 1-2 with a great strike from outside of the box just before the break. It was then 2-2 with another close-range effort from corner - this time a header which the Hemel keeper got his hands to but was unable to keep hold of.
Right at the end of the game it was 2-3 and it was Hemel Rovers who go through to the Quarter-Final of the competition where they travel to Little Heath who also play in Division Two of the Herts Senior County League.
Hemel's goal scorers were Rhys Stonebank and Lewis Swindells (2).
