A DEVINE GOAL BUT THE MAGPIES GO OUT OF THE SOUTHERN LEAGUE CUP

COLNEY HEATH 2 WALTHAM ABBEY 2
Southern League Challenge Cup Round One
Abbey win 1-4 on penalty kicks.
Attendance - 71

The returning George Devine netted a goal for The Magpies early in this game but it wasn't enough to see The Magpies through. The former Biggleswade Town and London Colney player had left Colney Heath over the summer to join Vanarama South side Hemel Hempstead Town and then subsequently joined Southern Premier side Hendon on a dual registration basis but has recently returned to The Recreation Ground.

His early goal on 6 minutes was cancelled out by Abbey's Robert Clark on 47 minutes and then a superb solo effort from the experienced Nathan Twum Koranteng on 71 minutes. It was 2-2 shortly after when  Kamal Mcewan raced away and was able to poke the ball home past the dive of Ashlee Jones who it is always a pleasure to see play.

The game went to kicks from the penalty mark with one saved and one put over the cross-bar by the home side and Abbey scoring all four of theirs to go through to the second round.

It's FA Trophy action for both teams tomorrow as Abbey make the long trip to East Grinstead Town and Colney Heath welcome Basildon United.
