It was a bitterly cold evening in Hertfordshire on Tuesday 7th March - as kick off approached the temperature hovered around -1 to zero with a frost settling on the playing surface at The John Clements Sports and Community Centre. It was most certainly a night for a hat, gloves and layers of clothing for the 52 spectators in attendance which included a good number who had made the twenty mile trip from Totternhoe.
This was 7th v 5th in the table with the visitors going into the game on the back of a 3-1 home win against Buckingham United on Saturday - Codicote had won 0-4 at AFC Caddington which had ended a run of three defeats in a row.
The game was a highly entertaining one with some tackles flying in and some impressive attacking play of which Totternhoe had the better of in the first 45 minutes with the half time score being 1-2.
Cod goalkeeper Judicael Mottaz, who has made three appearances for Premier Division side Potton United this season, won't want to remember Tott's first goal as he allowed former Cod striker Kadeem Gutzmore to nick the ball from a back pass to score an easy tap in. It was an unfortunate mistake that many goalkeepers make in their career with Mottaz making up for it with a good save with his feet only a few minutes later to keep the score at 0-1.
With the score a 2-2 with only around ten minutes to go the home side had a brilliant chance to make it 3-2 with a shot from the edge of the box going very close past the post.
It was the visitors who scored the winner with a composed finish from Gutzmore past Mottaz to take the three points in a really competitive game.
Totts still have an outside chance of the title with games in hand over teams above them although as you can see from the table it's clearly Old Bradwell United, currently in second place, who are favourites to finish top. They currently have a +72 goal difference and only only one league defeat all season which was at Aston Clinton in October.
Tott's best chance of silverware is in the Division Two Cup where they are though to the semi-final stage where they play Eynesbury United away next Tuesday evening. Leighton Town Development await the winners of the Old Bradwell United v Berkhamsted Raiders semi-final.
