DIVISION THREE CUP GLORY FOR CHELLS ROVERS

The Hitchin Sunday League Division Three Cup Final was played between Atletico 99 and Chells Rovers on Sunday in front of a decent crowd at Arlesey Town. The game was first v second in the table as shown below and as the league tables (Rovers played tonight at  Kimpton and won 5-1) suggest there was nothing between the two teams throughout the game which went into extra time with the score at 1-1.

HITCHIN SUNDAY LEAGUE DIVISION THREE
CURRENT TABLE
POS TEAM P GD PTS PP
1.  ATLETICO 99  19 +44 46 55
2.  CHELLS ROVERS  19 +43 46 55

There was a controversial moment in the game when Atletico had a goal ruled out which would of made the score 2-1 to them. The Assistant Referee apparently flagged for the ball going out of play in the build up which was hotly disputed by the Atletico players. As you'll see from the replay there was also a push to a Rover's defender in the build so maybe justice was done when the goal was ruled out even if it was for the incorrect reason.

Rovers took the lead in the first half of extra time with a close range header which won them their first trophy since they were formed in 2020.

They have a chance for the title in Division Three but will be pushed all the way by Atletico who they still have to play on a date to be arranged - What a game that will be as I'm sure Atletico will be out for some friendly revenge over their title rivals.

They also have a chance of getting to another final as they face Division One side Engineers Arms this Sunday in the Semi-Final of the George John Cup.

Many apologies for missing Chells Rover's first goal on camera!!
