HODDESDON TOWN V KINGS LANGLEY
SPARTAN SOUTH MIDLANDS DIVISION ONE
Only a handful of local games survived the horrible weather conditions tonight. Enfield Town's home game along with the rest of the Ryman North fixtures were all cancelled in the afternoon after North London and the surrounding counties suffered hours of torrential rain causing most pitches to be declared totally unplayable.
I was somewhat surprised when I heard Hoddesdon Town's home fixture at home to Kings Langley was scheduled to go ahead with the referee deeming the pitch okay to play on. Upon arrival at Lowfield looking at the surface I wasn't hopeful of seeing any football as it looking terrible.
The game kicked off late at about 8pm and apart from a few occasions when the ball got bogged down in the middle of the pitch it wasn't too bad. It wasn't the best of matches as you can see the conditions were conducive to excellent soccer but full marks to the players and officials for getting the game on and played. It tipped it down with rain for the whole match.
Kings Langley took an early lead through Lewis Toomey only the be pegged back by a Lee Tombs header making the half time score 1-1. Hoddesdon had the better chances of the half, they hit the post from a free kick and also went close one other occasion.

The second half was one of few chances with Toomey being the King's Langley hero when he knocked the ball into a open net following a high free kick into the area which struck the post. Hoddy had one good chance to get back into the game but Ross Channer in goal for Langley pulled off a good save.
Hoddesdon Town produce one of the best non-league programmes going and it was no different tonight when on sale was their mammouth 60 page effort for only £1.50. Excellent value!!
