It's been a difficult start to the 2021/22 season for Cannons Wood with their original management duo appointed in pre-season departing the club after only a handful of games. Reserve team joint manager's Alex Fairley and Ross Bishop stepped in to be Interim bosses for the league game at Coggeshall United and this game in the League Challenge Cup at home versus Newbury Forest. It was an evening to remember for Forest's Ali Abdulhadir who scored four of his team's seven goals as they netted four in the first and three in the second half. Cannons Wood's Yaya Djau was sent off following a second yellow card offence in the second half.
Newbury Forest played some great football but since this game was played they have lost league games at St Margaretsbury (3-1) and at home to Benfleet (0-2). In the Essex Senior Cup they lost at Takeley 5-1 and today they were knocked out of the FA Vase by Benfleet (3-1).
A few days after this game Cannons Wood appointed former Brimsdown, Cockfosters, Harpenden Town and Welwyn Garden City player Steven Wade as Player/Manager. Wade has also played for the club in a previous spell.
Wade's first game in charge ended 3-3 at home to Barkingside followed by a 3-1 defeat in the Essex Senior Cup at Holland FC. Yesterday they were narrowly beaten 3-2 at current league leader's Stanway Pegasus.
The starting XI versus Stanway had only Ahmed Mbaye, Kymani Nelson and Eldis Allushi left from who started the Newbury Forest game.
