Since the leauge's formation (as the Milli League) in 1959 only five clubs have won the title being Galatasaray (22), Fenerbahçe (19), Beşiktaş (15), Trabzonspor (6) and Bursaspor (1). This could well change this season as Istanbul Basaksehir (runner's up last season) have a real chance of winning the title. Trabzonspor could also win their first title since 1984 - the Karadeniz Fırtınası (translated to mean "Black Sea Storm") also won the title in 76,77,79, 80 and 81.

They are one of five teams form Istanbul who currently play in the division alongside Galatasaray, Fenerbahce, Besiktas and Kasimpasa.

Norwegian International Alexander Sørloth is the top scorer in the league so far this season netting 19 goals so far. He is actually a Crystal Palace player but currently on loan to Trabzonspor.

Former Newcastle United player Papiss Cissé follows him on 16 goals with Macedonian Adis Jahovic on 17 goals. The top scoring Turkish player is Besiktas Captain Burak Yilmaz on 11 goals - The 34 year old has played for the 'big four' in Turkish football with Fenerbache, Trabzonspor and Galatasaray amongst his former clubs.
