FOOTBALL TITLES - SOME RANDOM FACTS & STATISTICS

The last time a team other than Celtic or Rangers won the Scottish title was in 1984/85 when Alex Ferguson's Aberdeen side topped the division by seven points from Celtic. It was the fourth time the title had been won by Aberdeen with triumphs in 1955, 1980 and 1984. Their average league crowd was 16,152 in the 84/85 season - Last season they averaged 14,924 at Pittodrie.

Rangers have won the Scottish title 54 times with Celtic on 50 wins.

Since the Portuguese top division was founded in 1934 the title has been dominated by the 'big three' of the countries game. Benfica have won the Championship 37 times, Porto 28 times and Sporting CP 18 times. The only other two other sides to finish top are:

Belenenses won the title in 1945/46 when they won by just one point from Benfica. The club were relegated from the top division in 1982 for the first time in their history.

At the end of 2017/18 season the two parts of the club in "CF os Belenenses (Club)" and "Belenenses Sociedade Anónima Desportiva (SAD) - Public limited sports company" split as the "Protocol on the use of Estádio do Restelo" ended and the SAD refused to negotiate a new contract.

So from the 2018–19 season "Belenenses SAD" (the professional team) play their Primeira Liga home games at Estádio Nacional with "CF os Belenenses" are an amateur team playing in the sixth tier with the support of the majority of fans and club members. "Belenenses SAD" was legally forbidden from using the original logo and name.

Boavista topped the table in 2000/01 for the only time in their history. In June 2008 the club were relegated for it's part in the famous match fixing scandal known as 'Apito Dourado (Golden Whistle)' - the team were relegated again at the end of the 08/09 season and played in the third tier of the pyramid from 2009 to 2014. After a long legal battle the right for the club to come back to the Primeira Liga was awarded with the 'Os Axadrezados' returning to the top divison for the 14/15 campaign.
