The big news in local football today is that it has been announced that ex Enfield Town manager Steve Newing is the new boss at Cheshunt FC. Steve had most recently been part of the coaching staff at Vanarama South side Wealdstone whom he left when boss Gordon Bartlett was replaced. He has also been in charge of Boreham Wood's U21 side in the last few year following his departure from Enfield Town in 2013.
NEWING CELEBRATES ENFIELD TOWN'S 2012 PLAY-OFF VICTORY WITH CAPTAIN MARK KIRBY
He is perhaps best known for his time with The Towners whom he won promotion from Division One (North) via the play-offs in 2012 and Edgware Town where he won promotion to the Isthmian League in 2007 as Champions of the Spartan South Midlands League. He will assisted by Jason Dale who was his assistant and coach during his time at Enfield Town.
His first game in charge comes in the Emirates FA Cup First Qualifying Round on Saturday against currently unbeaten Essex Senior League team Takeley who have won all seven of their league and cup games so far.
The Ambers next league games come on Saturday 9th September at home against AFC Sudbury and then a local derby game (also at home) to Potters Bar Town on Tuesday 12th September.
The Cold End wishes Steve the best of luck in his new appointment as he looks to take The Ambers towards the top end of the Bostik North division.
