red = Essex Senior League sides
pink = Spartan South Midland League sides
blue = other leagues
With the FA Vase being regional up until the later rounds it's always inevitable that the Essex Senior and Spartan South Midlands league's teams draw each other. Nine games in the first qualifying round feature ESL v SSML ties with big 'London Derby' at Goffs Lane between The Lions and APSA standing out.
There are four all SSML ties and Sporting Bengal United make their debut in the Vase with a trip to Hatfield Town. London Colney welcome the only Hertfordshire Senior County League side in the draw as Codicote go to Cotlandswick. There is only one SSML Division Two side in the competition - Winslow United entertain Hellenic Leaguer's Holyport.
In the second qualifying round, as with the FA Cup which the cold end spoke about a few days back, there is an either/or look about the draw. Clapton enter the competition with a home game at the Spotted Dog ground versus fellow ESL side Southend Manor. The Tons have only won three games in the competition since 2000/01 against Long Buckby, Stotfold and London APSA (their last victory in the Vase in 2006).
The first round proper has also been drawn but is very complex with more either/ors than the 2nd Qualifying Round. Enfield 1893, Witham Town, Bethnal Green United, Royston Town and Tring Athletic enter at this stage with Stansted, Leverstock Green, Dunstable Town and Stansted entering at the Second Round Proper stage.
Let's hope a local side goes all the way to the final at Wembley on Sunday 13th May next year.
