EAGLES SWOOP TO TAKE LOCAL BRAGGING RIGHTS IN LETCHWORTH

The eagerly anticipated Hertfordshire Senior County League game between Baldock Town Letchworth and Letchworth Garden City Eagles took place on Wednesday night in front of a larger than average crowd in the North Hertfordshire town last night.

The game was the first league game to take place between the most of local of rival sides as the Eagles were promoted to the Premier Division as Champions of Division One last season. Their home of Pixmore is referred to by some locals as 'through the hedge' as it is basically on the other side of some greenery next to Baldock's home of the Hertfordshire County FA HQ.

Eagles won the game 1-3 and looked the better side for most of the match with a well organised hard working team performance. That's not to say they didn't ride their luck at some points as with the game delicately poised at 1-1 the home side hit the post and had a header cleared off the line.

The first half was lit up by the Eagles opening goal which was a superb strike from outside of the box. The ball moved and dipped in the air with the Baldock keeper not standing a chance of stopping it. Take a look at the highlights below to see this goal - If it were scored by anyone of Messers Drogba, Walcott or Rooney etc it would have had Alan Hansen throwing superlatives at it and Alan Shearer waxing lyrical on Match of the Day about a contender for goal of the season. Proof that you don't have to spend a absolute fortune watching Premier League games to see quality goals!!!

The second half was much better entertainment with Baldock equalising and then having chances to take the lead with the Eagles breaking away to make it 1-2 and then finally 1-3.

Eagles have taken to life in their new division with ease and now sit proudly at the top of the table having played 4 won 3 and drawn 1.
