The race for the title and play-offs is set to be an exciting one in The Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division. Cockfosters took top spot yesterday courtesy of their 4- 0 home win over Shefford Town & Campton who are bottom of the table and still without a league win. Among 'Fosters scorers yesterday was 18 year old former Watford Academy midfielder Yianni Goulandris - it was his first goal for the club.
MK Irish are in second place but remain unbeaten - they dropped their first points and conceded their first goals in the league yesterday when 208 people saw then come back from 0-2 down at home to Winslow United with substitute Bruno Brito and Cameron O'Neil scoring the goals. Simon King and Charlie Rowe had scored for the visitors.
Winslow, who were promoted from Division One last season, have made a impressive start to life at Step Five and are currently in 8th place.
Potton United drew 1-1 at FC Romania yesterday with Mike Evans scoring their goal in the first half and hosts equalising right at the end of the game from a penalty kick.
Wormley Rovers are another promoted side making an impressive start to the season and they underlined this with a very good 0-1 win at Arlesey Town yesterday in a game which saw 57 minutes played in the second half and two red cards (one for each side) handed out. Rovers only two league defeats have come at home against Cockfosters and away at Winslow United.
London Lions, Arlesey Town and Biggleswade United make up the current top eight.
