SAN MARINO BACK IN ACTION THIS WEEKEND LOOKING FOR THEIR FIRST COMPETITIVE WIN

In the last International Break San Marino were well beaten by both Denmark and Slovenia who both recorded 4-0 wins.

Their next games come in Northern Ireland and at home game against Denmark both in the Euro 2024 Qualification Group H.

Fabrizio Costantini's squad are currently the lowest FIFA ranked side placed in 211th - Northern Ireland are 59th with Denmark at 10th.

Northern Ireland haven't been in great form in their Group games winning one and lost five of their games so far with their only victory coming in San Marino back in March where Bolton Wanderer's striker Dion Charles netted both goals. Since then they have lost four games very narrowly 0-1 and 4-2 in Slovenia.

SOME FACTS AND STATS
- San Marino last scored a competitive goal in a 1-7 home defeat to Poland in a 2022 FIFA World Cup Qualification game on 5th September 2021. Striker Nicola Nanni scored the goal which was his only goal for San Marino in 31 caps so far.

- Since the start of 2020 San Marino have scored four goals in thirty-four games. Alongside Nanni's goal is Lorenzo Lazzari's dramatic 94th minute equaliser in the 1-1 draw in St Lucia in November 2022. Filippo Fabri's netted in 1-2 friendly home defeat against Lithuania in March 2022 and David Tomassini's late goal in the 4-1 away defeat against Kosovo in June 2021.

- San Marino's last away competitive goal came back in September 2017 which came in a 5-1 World Cup Qualifying defeat in Azerbaijan. Defender Mirko Palazzi scored the goal which is his only International goal in 75 caps so far.

- It's the same story for the San Marino under 21 side whose last results have been a 3-0 defeat in the Republic of Ireland and 0-7 home defeat against Norway. Their last positive result was a 0-0 draw in Euro u21 qualification against Latvia u21 in March. They have competed in qualification for the Euro u21 Championship since the 1990 competition but did not play in the 2000 and 2002 qualification stage. They do have some competitive victories if you read their results but all is not what it seems - In 2004 they originally lost 6-0 to Sweden but were awarded a 3-0 win when it was discovered Sweden had included suspended players in their squad. Then in 2007 they lost to Armenia by a score line of 2-1 but it was against awarded as a 3-0 win. In September 2013 they recorded a win 1-0 over Wales with Juri Biordi scoring a famous goal. The Welsh starting XI included Danny Ward (currently at Leicester City), Morgan Fox (QPR), Lee Evans (Ipswich Town) and Tom Lawrence (Rangers). Biordi went on to gain six full International caps.

- San Marino's u17 side have one competitive victory which came against Andorra in the UEFA Euro Championship u17 qualification stage.

- Wednesday 28th April 2004 is a very important date in San Marino's football history as it was on this day they famously recorded their first and only victory - Just 200 people were present at the Stadio Olimpico to see Andy Selva 6th minute goal which sealed a 1-0 friendly against Liechtenstein
