It was a huge afternoon in the Thurlow Nunn First Division South yesterday as Dunmow Town travelled to Harlow Town for a top of the table clash - It was just goal difference that separated the the two teams in first and second place prior to kick off.

Two goals from former Coggeshall Town, Grays Athletic, Witham Town, Hashtag United, Braintree Town, Tilbury and Romford striker Josh Osude along with a goal from Rgee Manyewe who played for Southend Manor last season put Town 0-3 up with The Hawks got one back to make the final score 1-3 in front of a very impressive crowd of 507 people.

Dunmow Town, promoted from the Essex & Suffolk Border Premier Division last season, are now top of the table on goal difference from another side who moved up from Step Seven in Hutton who were champions of the Essex Olympian Premier Division. They won 0-1 at Barkingside yesterday.

Cannons Wood are in third place closely followed by Harlow Town who drop down to fourth following their defeat - there is then a four point gap to Benfleet on 21 points in the fifth and final play off spot.

Cannons Wood are ground sharing at Aveley's Parkfield Stadium this season won big against Tower Hamlets yesterday with a 6-2 victory with Harry Brown netting a hat-trick - He is a recent signing for Cannons Wood - He scored 19 goals in 24 games for Basildon Town last season. He started the season in the Essex Senior League for Hullbridge Sports where he scored a hat-trick in their FA Cup upset 3-1 win over Step Four side Waltham Abbey and featured in their game against Kettering Town in First Qualifying Round.

Benfleet started the season with Alex Salmon in charge but he has since moved to Isthmian North Division Enfield FC following the departure of Jamie Cureton. Lee Scott is the new man in charge.

Off the pitch Benfleet have been ground sharing at Canvey Island since 2019 which is around 7 miles away from their spiritual home at Woodside Park. They have applied for planning permission to bring the ground up to Step Six standards with floodlights and new stands. This is great to see and a huge positive for everyone who lives in the Essex Town.

At the bottom of the table it's NW London, Clapton and Park View who sit in the relegation places but they are closely followed by Tower Hamlets, Barkingside and Hoddesdon Town.

NW have conceded 29 goals in 9 games, The Tons are on 33 in 11 games and Park View have let in 32 also in 11 games.

NW and Clapton will be given a boost with victories in the London Senior Trophy First Round yesterday. The Tons won on penalty kicks after a dramatic 3-3 draw at Peckham Town which saw them go 2-3 up on 90+4 only for The Menace to bring in back level on 90+6 with the home side still having time to hit the post before the final whistle.

NW also travelled South of the River to play Bridon Ropes of the Southern Counties East Division One and came away with a much needed clean sheet and a 0-2 victory!

Park View's scheduled home game against Meridian Sports was postponed with the result awarded as an 'away walkover' - the club posted on social media on the 21st September that they had no choice but to withdraw from the league as they had struggled to keep up with costs and needed more support via sponsors and donations - there has been no new updates since. Their next home game is scheduled for Wednesday evening at home to St Margaretsbury - Let's hope they got something sorted.

Clapton started the season with former Woodford Town boss Ross Weare in charge but he has moved onwards and upwards with a coaching position in the Boreham Wood Academy.

The current Management team is Director of Football Qayam Shakoor, Manager Mustafa Bashkal and coach Gildo Andre.

It's all building up to the first Clapton Derby ever which is scheduled to take place under the floodlights at The Old Spotted Dog on Tuesday 17th November. The historic ground is now the home of Clapton Community Football Club who were formed in 2018 by a group of Clapton fans who were highly dissatisfied and disillusioned by the running of Clapton Football Club. It's all well written about elsewhere so I won't go into the ins and outs of what happened - Just to say that CCFC have had crowds of 297, 309, 303, 318, 254, 539 and 347 for their men's league games so far . I think the interest this game will attract (not just locally) will see a huge crowd descend on Upton Lane that night.

SOME FACTS AND STATS ON THE SEASON SO FAR

- CLAPTON CFC HAVE DRAWN THEIR LAST FIVE LEAGUE GAMES IN A ROW. ALL IN ALL THEY HAVE DRAWN SEVEN OF THEIR TWELVE LEAGUE GAMES PLAYED (58.33%). ENFIELD BOROUGH ARE ALSO DRAW SPECIALISTS WITH SIX OF ELEVEN GAMES FINISHING ALL SQUARE (54.55%).

- WORMLEY ROVERS & DUNMOW TOWN ARE THE FORM SIDES WITH FOUR WINS IN THEIR LAST SIX GAMES.

- WORMLEY ROVERS HAVE SCORED SEVENTEEN GOALS IN THOSE SIX GAMES WHICH WORKS OUT AS 2.83 GOALS SCORED PER GAME WHICH IS A MARKED INCREASE ON THEIR FIRST FIVE GAMES WHICH SAW THEM NET JUST SIX GOALS (1.83 GPG).

- ENFIELD BOROUGH ARE ON A RUN OF NINE LEAGUE GAMES WITHOUT A WIN BUT ON A POSTITIVE NOTE THEIR YOUNG SIDE HAS DRAWN SIX OF THOSE GAMES.

In this week's fixtures there is a huge game on Wednesday evening as Dunmow Town host Hutton in another top of the table clash. Town, currently ground sharing at Heybridge Swift's Scraley Road, have had crowds of 58, 61, 35 and 89 so far for their league games - It would be great to see a three-figure attendance for the all important game.

Next midweek it's all about local games as the aforementioned Clapton Community v Clapton game takes place on the same night as Hoddesdon Town v Harlow Town which should be another well attended game. It's then down to Mile End on Wednesday evening for an East London Derby between Tower Hamlets and Hackney Wick.
