Just over two miles separate The Royal Oak and The Memorial Ground so you can safely say Little Oakley and Harwich & Parkeston are very much local rivals. The North Essex clubs have announced a charity pre-season game which will be an annual event to honour the memory of Tim Gooch & Norman Mann.
Tim Gooch sadly passed away in December 2020 and was the president of The Acorns. He was one of the key figures behind the scenes at the club he had joined in 1983. His hard work off the pitch helped the club climb from the Essex & Suffolk Border League to the Essex Senior League.
Norman Mann was club president of The Shrimpers who passed away in July 2021 and was one of the longest serving supporters of the historic club.
They were both very well known and extremely popular by many fans and residents in the area so for the clubs to honour their memory with money raised for charity is fantastic.
The last time the two played each other was on Saturday 28th December at The Royal Oak when 620 saw Little Oakley win 1-3 in the Thurlow Nunn First Division South.
The first annual charity game will take place on Thursday 21st July at Little Oakley.
