THE FOUR TEAMS LOOKING FORWARD TO THE UEFA CHAMPIONS LEAGUE DRAW

The 2022 UEFA Champions League final may only just be about to kick off between two of the World's most famous teams in Real Madrid and Liverpool but the 22/23 Preliminary Round draw is to be made on Tuesday 7th June with the first games scheduled to take place on Tuesday 21st June. There are four clubs proudly representing Iceland, San Marino, Andorra and Latvia.

Knattspyrnufélagið Víkingur are commonly referred to as
Víkingur Reykjavík and are based in Reykjavik, Iceland. They are the current champions of "Besta-deild karla" which is the top level division of Icelandic football. It was their sixth title win and their first since 1991.

They have played in the Champion's League/European Cup on three previous occasions - the 1982 they lost to Real Sociedad, 1983 they lost to Hungarian side Rába ETO Győr and in 1992 CSKA Moscow were victorious.

In seven seasons of European Football they have the following record:

COMPETITION P W D L GF-GA GD
EUROPEAN CUP WINNER'S CUP  2 0 0 2 0-11 -11
UEFA/EUROPA CUP  5 0 1 4 3-13 -10
EUROPEAN/CHAMPIONS 6 0 0 6 5-13 -8
TOTAL  13 0 1 12 8-37 -29

Their best result being a 2-2 draw away at Slovenian side FC Koper in the 15/16 UEFA Europa League or their 2-3 defeat at Real Sociedad in the 82/83 European Cup where they had take the lead in the 2nd minute of the game. Pedro Uralde scored two of the goals for Real Sociedad who had featured in the World Cup 1982 game for Spain against England.

All of Vikingur's eight European goals have been scored in away games.

The 2021 Icelandic season where they were champions finished in September with the 2022 campaign recently starting in April where they are currently in fifth place.

FCI Levadia are the current Latvian Meistriliiga League champions which was their tenth title in their history. The club have been based in Tallinn since 2004 having originally played in Maardu, which is around 15km from the Capital, from their formation in 1998. In 2007 they merged with FCI Tallinn to form FCI Levadia having orignally been called Levadia. Football Club Infonet (as FCI stands for) Tallinn had been champions in 2016.

In last season's UEFA Europa League they beat St Joseph's of Gibraltar before losing to Irish side Dundalk 4-3 on aggregate.

The well travelled Brazilian striker Ellinton Antonio Costa Morais (aka Liliu) has been amongst the goals this season scoring 6 times in 13 games. The 32 year old joined from Peruvian club Sport Huancayo but has also played in Belgium, Kuwait, Cyprus, Israel, Malta, Sweden, Finland as well as his home country.

Since their first Meistrilliga title win in 1999 they have been a regular name in European competition.

They are currently in second position of the 2022 Meistrilliga on goal difference to Flora who top the table.

Inter Club d'Escaldes are the current Andorran Champions which is their third Primera Divisió title in a row. They beat HB Torshavn of the Faroe Islands before losing to Kosovan club FC Prishtina which saw them drop down to the UEFA Conference League where they lost 3-2 to aggregate to Albanian side Teuta despite winning the first leg 2-0.

The club currently has 18 Spanish players in their squad of 28 players. Gerald Artigas scored 12 games in 25 league games in the 21/22 league season.

The club's current manager is Otger Xifro who has been in place since April - He replaced Argentinian Federico Luna who had been in place since August 2021. Adolfo Baines, who MK Dons fans will remember the Spanish goalkeeper from his short spell with the Buckinghamshire club in 2006, was in charge from 2018 to 2020.

La Fiorita won the 21/22 Campionato Sammarinese Di Calso title this week with a 2-0 win over Tre Penne in the play-off final. The league is divided into play-offs after a 28 game regular season - It was the sixth title win in their history.

They have played 20 European games with just two positive results being a 0-0 draw at home to Linfield in 17/18 Champions League and a 1-1 draw at home to Maltese side Birkirkara in last season Conference League. The goal scored in last season's game was only their third scored over those 20 games.

Only one player has scored for the club in Europe as the goal versus Birkirkara and against Andorran side Engordany in the 19/20 Europa League tie were Own Goals!

That player was Italian International and former Roma player Damiano Tommasi who netted in the 1-5 defeat to FC Vaduz in the 14/15 Europa League. At the time Tommasi was 41 years of age and had come out of retirement after a six year break from the game.
