BRAINTREE TOWN LOOKING FOR A NEW BOSS

Vanarama South side Braintree Town are looking for a new Manager after parting company with Ryan Maxwell  who had been in charge at Cressing Road since November 2020. The 38 year old had previously been player-manager at Essex Senior League side Walthamstow from February 2018 to January 2020 as well as short spell with Essex and Suffolk Border League side Dunmow Town at the beginning of the 20/21 season.

Despite reportedly working with lower playing budget than many other clubs in the division The Iron finishing in 17th place which was nine points above relegated Billericay Town.

Many players were recruited from lower down the pyramid including 24 year old winger Gianni Crichlow from Hendon after also recently representing Hanwell Town and Harrow Borough. The former QPR academy player won the young player of the season, player's player of the season and most improved player of the season awards. Former Enfield Town and Hornchurch midfielder Matt Johnson won the Manager's player of the season award.

The Essex side moved up from the Isthmian Premier Division to Step Two of the non-league ladder in 2006 and then spent five season's at non-league's top table finishing in third position in the 15/16 season with Danny Cowley in charge losing to Grimsby Town in the play-off semi-finals. They won the first-leg 0-1 at Blundell Park only for The Mariners who won the final to defeat them 0-2 at Cressing Road.

In 16/17 they were relegated to the National South Division but were promoted back via the play-offs at the first attempt in 17/18 beating Hampton & Richmond Borough on penalty kicks under boss Bradley Quinton.

The former Enfield Town boss left in October 2018 to be replaced by Hakan Hayrettin who departed in January 2019 with Danny Searle stepping in who left in May 2019 with Glen Driver taking the hot-seat who left in November 2019.

Jake Hutchings then took over as player-manager with former boss George Borg as coach - Hutchings left after only three games in charge with Borg taking the reigns from then until Maxwell took over.

The club were relegated from The National League in 18/19 and in the 19/20 season were struggling in second from bottom position of the South Division before football was curtailed due to the pandemic.

The Iron won 11 league games (of 42) this season which included 4 in the last 10 games played against play-off contender's Ebbsfleet United and Dartford as well as Slough Town and Hemel Hempstead Town.

WHO WILL BE IN CHARGE AT CRESSING ROAD FOR THE 22/23 CAMPAIGN?
