BILLINGHAM SYNTHONIA LOOKING FOR HELP TO KEEP THEIR HISTORIC CLUB GOING

A historic non-league club's name many fans will find familiar is Billingham Synthonia - the club today have put out a statement stating they are on the brink of extinction due to their main sponsor pulling out their support of the club.

The Synners are due to celebrate their centenary in 2023 having been formed in 1923 with their unique name relating to an agricultural fertiliser manufactured by ICI a company which the company were affiliated to.

The club lost their Central Avenue ground in 2017 due to the costs of upgrading works being too expensive. They currently play at The Norton Sports Complex in neighbouring Norton.

The club are currently asking for donations to keep them going until the end of the season and beyond at the following just giving page

Hopefully the club will receive the support it needs to stay afloat. They have got to the FA Cup First Round in 48/49, 49/50, 51/52, 56/57, 57/58, 87/88 and 89/90. The FA Amateur Cup QF in 48/49, FA Trophy QF in 93/94 where they lost to Woking in a replay and the FA Vase SF in 06/07.

They have an impressive run in this season's Vase getting to the Third Round where they lost to Wythenshawe Town - they did beat Whitley Bay, Brandon United, FC Isle of Man and West Auckland Town.

The Synners next game is at home to Willington in the EBAC Northern League Division Two on Saturday. They have averaged 91 in league matches this season with a top crowd of 190 against Redcar Town on Friday 3rd September.

It would be great to see over 200 at the game at the weekend which see's Synthonia (8th) and Willington (15th) face off.
