FC UNITED OF MANCHESTER ANNOUNCE FRIENDLY GAMES AGAINST CLAPTON CFC AND ENFIELD TOWN FC

FC United of Manchester who were formed by a group of Manchester United fans in 2005 and now play at their own Broadhurst Park Stadium have announced two interesting pre-season friendly games in July and August.

The Northern Premier League Premier Division side will welcome Enfield Town on Saturday 24th July for the Brian Lomax Supporters Direct Trophy. The Towners are celebrating their twentieth anniversary after being formed in 2001 by fans of the old Enfield FC who had been been moved from their much loved Southbury Road ground in 1999 to ground-sharing in Boreham Wood.

On Saturday 7th August there is a double header of games as Clapton Community Football Club visit with the women's teams playing at 1.30pm and the men's teams at 4pm. Clapton CFC were formed in January 2018 by a group of Clapton FC supporters who were frustrated with the ownership of the club. They will soon be moving to The Old Spotted Dog stadium as Clapton Community were awarded the lease to the ground in September 2019 and purchased the freehold in July 2020 which secures the beautiful game to be played at the oldest senior football ground in the Capital. The first official game played by Clapton FC was in September 1888 against Old Carthusians.

I think it would be great to see a ground re-opening game against Old Carthusians who now play in the Arthurian League. Thanks to the many Ton's fans and volunteers who have been working hard behind the scenes The Old Spotted Dog will see the return of football on it's hallowed turf very soon.
