CLASSIC FOOTBALL PROGRAMMES - CRAY WANDERERS v CHINGFORD - 1958

It was approaching the end of the 1957/58 season when Chingford visited Grassmeade to face Cray Wanderers with the home side sitting on top of the London League Premier Division with the Championship still in the balance. This is number '203' and what a brilliant artwork on the cover from a club well renowned, even back then, to produce excellent and highly collectable programmes. There was a bit of fixture pile-up for The Wands with their final games as follows -

Wednesday 23rd April - WILLESDEN
Thursday 24th April - CHINGFORD
Saturday 26th April - Wingate
Wednesday 30th April - Tilbury
Thursday 1st May - BARKINGSIDE
Saturday 3rd May - WEST THURROCK

Cray Wanderers won this game 4-0 and the title with a total of 51 points from their nearest challengers Eton Manor.

I'm sure every non-league football fan was very pleased to see the news announced in 2018 that Cray Wanderers had planning permission finally granted for a new stadium in Flamingo Park just off of the A20 securing the rich history of the club founded in 1860 making them London's oldest Association Football Club.

They played at Grassmeade from 1954 to 1973 before a move to Oxford Road which they had to leave in 1988 due to the Kent League ruling all clubs must have flood lighting.

When they finally move into Flamingo Park it'll be a huge celebration for the club who haven't had a ground to call home for over 30 years!
