CLASSIC FA CUP PROGRAMMES - 1981 - ALDERSHOT FC v LEYTONSTONE & ILFORD

Saturday 21st November 1981 was the last time Leytonstone & Ilford played in the 'proper' rounds of the competition. The Shots, then playing in Division Four, under the management of Len Walker welcomed the East London side who were managed by John Still with their team containing many names non-league fans will recognise.

Walker, had played over 400 games for The Shots between 1964 and 1976. He was manager between 1981 to 1984 and 1985 to 1991 when Brian Talbot took over.

To get to the this stage L&I had beaten Erith and Belvedere, Woodford Town, Billericay Town and Carshalton Athletic.

The home side won 2-0 with former Peterborough United, Colchester United and Portsmouth forward Colin Garwood, then aged 32, grabbing both goals.

Aldershot lost to Oxford United in the second round replay 2-4 after a 2-2 draw at home.
