It's been an incredibly difficult few weeks for three clubs in European Competition.
Kosovan Champions FC Drita played in the qualifying mini-tournament held in Switzerland and beat Andorran side Inter Club d'Escaldes to set up a tie with Norhern Irish side Linfield. However due to two players unfortunately testing positive for Covid-19 their whole playing squad and staff were put into quarantine by Swiss authorities. Linfield were awarded the tie by virtue of a 3-0 score-line.
In the first qualifying round Slovakian champion's Slovan Bratislava were due to play Faroese side KI on Wednesday 19th Auguat but due to one player and one staff member the tie was re-scheduled to the Friday 21st August with the rest of the squad being put into quarantine by Faroese authorites. The reserve side for Slovan were due to play in the game but another player tested positive so they were put into quarantine. The game never went ahead and the tie was awarded to KI.
In the Europa League Preliminary Round another Kosovan side Prishtina were due to play Lincoln Red Imps of Gibraltar. Several members of Prishtina's delegation testes positive so the game was delayed but another eight people tested positive. The game was awarded to the Red Imps.
I wish all the players, officials and fans of the three clubs all the best and hope that everyone recovers over the next few weeks. Hopefully all three clubs can return to the competitions for the 2021/22 season and erase the bad memories of this campaign.
