BUILDBASE FA VASE THIRD ROUND PROPER THIS WEEKEND

Saturday 30th November

Bridlington Town v Stockton Town
Stockton Town have had a rapid rise up the pyramid from the Wearside League in 2016 to the Northern League Division Two which they won at the first attempt and have since finished 6th and 7th in Division One - they are currently second in the table but have games in hand over Hebburn Town who are top. They lost to Thatcham Town in the final at Wembley in 2018.

Bridlington Town are twice finalists losing in 1990 to Yeading in a replay at Leeds United and winning in 1993 against Tiverton Town at Wembley.

Coventry United v Grimsby Borough
Coventry United had a great run in last season's competition but were unfortunately removed after their Fourth Round victory over Leicester Nirvana when it was adjudged they fielded an ineligible player so will feel they have unfinished business to take care of. In fact you have to go back to 2016/17 when they officially "lost" a game in the Vase when Long Eaton United knocked them out in the First Round by a scoreline of 1-2. In 17/18 they got to a Third Round Replay losing to Bromsgrove Sporting on penalty kicks after a thrilling 3-3 draw.

Their visitors are a club on an upward spiral having won Division One of the Toolstation Northern Counties League Division One last season and currently being in third place of the Premier Division this season.

South Normanton Athletic v Clay Cross Town
Clay Cross Town are the only Step Seven side left in the competition and only have to make a short 8 mile journey to play Step Five Midland League Premier Division South Normanton Athletic.

Wroxham v Wellingborough Town
The Yachtsmen reached the 2010 final before being well beaten by Whitley Bay and then had a five year stay at step four of the non-league pyramid before returning the to Vase in 2017. They've had good victories against Netherton United, Baldock Town and White Ensign to get to this stage. They are fifteen points behind Stowmarket Town (see below) in the Thurlow Nunn Premier but will be looking to progress further in the Vase this season.

The Doughboys were reformed in 2004 and this is the furthest stage they have got in the Vase. They have reached the second on three seperate occasions prior to this season.
Stowmarket Town v Stansted
The Old Gold and Blacks have strengthened their already fantastic squad with the signing of former Ipswich Town striker Dean Bowditch last week - they are running away at the top of the Thurlow Nunn Premier Division this season and in 22 league and cup games played they have lost only one which was in the Emirates FA Cup against step three side Cheshunt which they narrowly lost 0-1. They have scored 71 goals and let in only 9. Josh Mayhew has scored 19 goals in 21 appearances which follows on from his 28 in 37 games for 2018/19 and 54 in 45 games in 2017/18.

The Airportmen, sixth in the Essex Senior League, travel to Greens Meadow as one of the form sides of the division winning their last six games in a row scoring 21 and letting in 6.  They famously won the competition in 1984 and reached the fifth round in 2010/11 where they lost to Dunston UTS.

Chatham Town v Welling Town
An all Southern Counties East Premier Division tie as second placed Chatham Town host sixth placed Welling Town.

This is the furthest The Chats have got in the competition with their opponents another side to have a rapid rise up the football pyramid only being formed in 2014 as a Sunday League side. This is their debut season in the Vase and they have already beaten Erith Town, Arundel, Erith & Belvedere and Bedfont & Feltham to get this stage.

Leighton Town v Eastbourne Town
Leighton Town are the form side of the Spartan South Midlands Premier Division having won seven and drawn one of their last eight league games having lost seven and drawn one of their first eight league games. The Bedfordshire club have had good recent runs to the Quarter-Final in 17/18 and Fifth Round in 03/04.

Eastbourne Town will bring with them a big away support with their Ultras group and got to the Fourth Round recently in 16/17. They are currently top of the Southern Combination Premier Division so will be a tough proposition for Leighton Town.
