CAN THE RELEGATED SIDES FROM THE FOOTBALL LEAGUE SHOW SOME BOUNCEBACKABILITY?

YEOVIL TOWN
The Glovers ended a sixteen season stay in the football league after finishing bottom of the League Two table. After successive relegations from the Championship and League One in 2014 and 2015 the Somerset side struggled in League Two finishing in 19th, 20th and 19th places before finishing bottom last season.

For a club the size of Yeovil Town to even get into the Championship was a tremendous achievement - the highlight of that season was probably their 0-3 win at Vicarage Road against Watford through goals from Byron Webster, Ishmael Miller and Joe Edwards in front of a crowd of 15,263. They also drew 1-1 at Champion's Leicester City with their goalscorer being midfielder Jo Ralls who was on loan from Cardiff City at the time.

The fact that five years on from this game The Foxes have been crowned Champions of the Premier League spending millions on players and that Yeovil Town are about to start the 2019/20 season at Level Five of the football pyramid shows how amazing and in turn heartbreaking the beautiful game cane be.

The club started with Darren Way in charge last season who was replaced with Neale Marmon on a caretaker basis in March. He left the club after their relegation was confirmed.

Former Stevenage FC boss Darren Sarll, aged 36, is the new man in charge at Huish Park - He left Broadhall Way in March 2018 after a two year spell in charge which saw the Hertfordshire club float around the mid table area in League Two. He was Head of Academy at Premier Leaufe side Watford between June 2018 and January 2019.

Sarll has made a number of signings since his appointment including four defenders. Luke Wilkinson joins up with his former manager after being released by Stevenage over the summer. The experienced 28 year old former Luton Town and Dagenham & Redbridge player was born in Somerset so will be a welcome addition to the club's squad. Tom Bradbury, 21, joins after spending last season with Scottish Premiership side Dundee where he also spent time on loan at York City also. He has also played for Bishop's Stortford and Banbury United on loan whilst with MK Dons. 31 year old Craig Alcock rejoined the club on a short term basis in February after he was released by Cheltenham Town - He originally came through the youth ranks at Yeovil Town making over 100 appearances between 2005 to 2011 when he joined Peterborough United for a £100,000 transfer fee. Counting Sheffield United and Doncaster Rovers as former clubs he has signed up for the 2019/20 season. Lee Collins, 30, missed much of last season through injury but did return to feature for Forest Green Rovers in their League Two play-off semi-final defeat to Tranmere Rovers.  The former Port Vale, Northampton Town and Mansfield Town player will bring much needed experience to the squad. Midfielder Andrew Crofts, 35, has been recruited in a player/coach capacity - He was with Newport County last season and is probably best known for his time with Brighton & HA and Norwich City between 2009 to 2016.

Sarll has also signed striker Rhys Murphy who scored 28 goals for Vanarama South side Chelmsford City last season. The 28 year old came through the academy ranks at Arsenal before playing for a number of clubs including Dagenham and Redbridge, Oldham Athletic and Forest Green Rovers.

6'4" Albanian midfielder Albi Skendi has also signed arriving from Southern Premier League Premier Central side Stratford Town. The 25 year old has also represented Oxford City and Banbury United in his career as well as a number of clubs in America.

The bookmakers rate the club's chances of the title between 14/1 to 20/1.

Sarll's side travel to Barnet on the opening day of the season before home games against Eastleigh and Stockport County.

NOTTS COUNTY
To say that the last year has been the most turbulent periods in the club's long history is a little bit of an understatement. Relegation from the football league they were founding members of in 1888 and financial difficulties with a transfer embargo currently in place due to unpaid debts to the HMRC. Fans are anxiously waiting for news of a reported take over of the club by a Danish consortium.

Manager Neil Ardley has played a number of trialists in their pre-season games to date including former Wycombe Wanderers, Derby County and Nottingham Forest striker Nathan Tyson along with 22 year old defender Dion Kelly-Evans who was with Kettering Town last season. Ex Burton Albion winger Damien McCrory has also featured. Frustratingly with the embargo in force the former AFC Wimbledon boss can't sign any of these players.

So far in pre-season The Magpies have drawn 1-1 against League One side Ipswich Town with Tyson scoring their goal. League Two side Walsall also visited Meadow Park and were beaten 2-1 with both goals coming from Enzio Boldewijn. He was also on target in the 0-5 win at Ilkeston Town where Tyson bagged a hat-trick. Their other result was a 0-2 win at Nuneaton Borough.

Ardley has retained many of last season's squad with Pierce Bird, Enzio Boldewijn, Remaye Campbell, Tom Crawford,  Kristian Dennis,  Michael Doyle, Declan Dunn, Ross Fitzsimons, Kane Hemmings, Alex Howes, Andy Kellett, Sam Osborne, Christian Oxlade-Chamberlain,  Will Patching,  Mitch Rose and Matt Tootle all available for games.

Seventeen year old forward Kion Etete has moved to Tottenham Hotspur after making an handful of appearances last season.

Remarkably despite all the off-pitch problems many bookmakers rate The Magpies as 7/1 favourites for the title.

County travel to Eastleigh on the opening day of the season followed by home matches against Stockport County and Barnet.

SUMMARY
If recent history is to go by then both Yeovil Town and Notts County will find it tough going in what is one of football's most competitive divisions. Chesterfield (14th) and Barnet (12th) finished in mid-table after relegation in 17/18 with Leyton Orient (13th) and Hartlepool United (15th) the season before. Cheltenham Town in 2016 are the last team to go straight back up again in just one season. My prediction is that Yeovil Town will finish above Notts County - I'll go for Yeovil Town in 9th and Notts County in 13th.
