TALKING TO LEON HUGHTON - WARE SPORTS LOOKING GOOD FOR THE 2018/19 SEASON

The Wodson Park sports centre will be a hive of activity every weekend for the 2018/19 campaign with Spartan South Midlands League Division One side Brimsdown ground sharing with Bostik League South Central Division side Ware along with SSMFL Division One Wodson Park playing at their ground (the athletic's track) behind the main sports centre and Ware Sports playing on the 3G pitch in between the two.

Ware Sports joined the Hertfordshire Senior County Premier Division in 2015 and have since finished in 10th, 4th and 3rd position. The Cold End spoke to joint first-team manager Leon Hughton (who counts Tottenham Hotspur, Stevenage Borough and Hoddesdon Town amongst his former clubs) about the club and the forthcoming season.

WHAT WAS THE BEST BIT OF LAST SEASON FOR WARE SPORTS?
I would have to say having our consecutive highest finish in the league and reaching the Aubrey Cup Final. Although we didn't win the final the experience holds massive for our young squad

WHAT WAS THE WORST BIT OF LAST SEASON FOR WARE SPORTS?
Losing our very talented left-back , Mitchell Judge, for a big part of the season and possibly next due to injury.

WHO WERE THE BEST TEAM YOU PLAYED AGAINST?
Bovingdon FC

(Bovingdon ran away with the Premier Division title losing just two league games out of twenty-eight played finishing eighteen points ahead of runner's up Letchworth Garden City Eagles - Ware Sports did beat them 1-0 in the Aubery Cup semi-final just a month after losing 1-5 in a league game)

WHERE THERE ANY PLAYERS YOU FACED WHO REALLY STOOD OUT AND COULD PLAY IN A HIGHER LEAGUE?
To single out one player would be too difficult, there are many talented players in the league.

ARE THERE ANY PLAYERS AT WARE SPORTS WHO COULD PLAY AT A HIGHER LEVEL?
We have a few I believe are more than capable of playing higher in a year or two.

WHAT ARE YOUR AIMS FOR THE CLUB THIS FORTHCOMING SEASON?
Our aim is to continue to grow and achieve. We have been lucky enough to have these lads around us for a while now and if they want to they can go on to achieve great things together in our eyes.

WHICH TEAM ARE YOU MOST LOOKING FORWARD TO PLAYING THIS FORTHCOMING SEASON?
All of them!

WHERE DO YOU SEE THE CLUB IN FIVE YEARS TIME?
I would love to see the club challenging in a higher league. Paul Gurney (Joint Manager) started our club from the ground so to gain promotion for him would be a dream come true and brilliant for all associated with Ware Sports FC. We have also added a reserve team for this season which we hope will strengthen the club and see more talented players challenging for a place into the first team.

IF YOU COULD CHANGE ONE THING IN FOOTBALL WHAT WOULD IT BE?
Bring VAR into our league!!

IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER WHAT'S YOUR PREDICTION FOR THE TOP THREE IN THE HERTS COUNTY PREMIER DIVISION FOR 2018/19?
Ware Sports, Letchworth City Eagles and Bedmond Sports.

WHICH TEAM WILL WIN THE ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE IN 2018/19?
Manchester City

You can follow Ware Sports on twitter @Waresportsfc - their pre-season training starts on Monday 2nd July and with the club running two sides this season new players will be made most welcome. If you are locally based and looking for a club to play for please contact them on social-media.
