AYLESBURY UNITED AND AYLESBURY FC - "EL QUACKICO" INTO IT'S SIXTH SEASON

For the long time loyal fans and everyone involved with Aylesbury United it must be a mixture of heartbreak and frustration that their spiritual home at Buckingham Road is still standing, albeit derelict behind security gates, despite not playing a home game there since 2006 when the lease on the ground ran out. For a club who were a regular fixture in the FA Cup round's proper in the 1980s and 1990s it's now been well over a decade since they had a home they could call their own in their home town. The Ducks began ground sharing at Chesham United before moving on to Leighton Town and Thame United before returning to Chesham United last season which is a 30 mile round trip from the town.

The beautiful game in the Buckinghamshire town has certainly changed over the last decade or so especially with the introduction of Aylesbury FC in 2009 who came about when Aylesbury Vale changed their name. The club had previously been called Haywood United between 2000 to 2005 following an amalgamation of Stocklake FC and Belgrave FC and before that Negretti and Zambra from when the club was formed in the 1930s - The roots of the club came from the Kings Cross area of London where the Negretti and Zambra company was originally based before relocation to the town.

The Moles replaced the The Ducks in the Southern League in 2010 when they won promotion from the Spartan South Midlands League Premier Division and United finished bottom of the Southern League Division One (Midlands) winning just four league games in forty-two played.

Needless to say the rivalry between the two clubs since has become highly competitive with the 'El Quackico' being the first two games supporters in the town now look for - both have been members of the same division in the Southern League since 2013 as The Ducks made a return to the Southern League after a three season stay in the SSML.

If was reported that talks were held at the beginning of this year between the two clubs to see if there was any appetite for a ground share scenario at Aylesbury FC but nothing further has been announced.

Aylesbury FC didn't have the best of seasons in 2017/18 finishing in 21st (of 22) place but on a more positive note the club have strengthened alliances with local club Bedgrove Dynamos who run a large number of youth teams up to their first team in the Aylesbury and District League. There have also been a number of ground improvements at their Haywood Way ground.

They have also appointed a new manager in Scott Reynolds who was in charge of Leighton Town last season who finished 4th in the SSML Premier and also had an amazing run in the FA Vase going out at the Quarter-Final stage narrowly losing to 1874 Northwich in front of 1,109 people at Bell Close.

WHO WILL COME OUT ON TOP IN THE 2O18/19 EL-QUACKICO WILL OF COURSE BE DECIDED IN DUE COURSE - IT WOULD BE GREAT TO SEE A GOOD CROWD FOR THE GAMES - WITH THE POPULATION OF THE TOWN AROUND 60,000 I THINK THE LOCAL DERBY GAMES SHOULD BE PLAYED IN FRONT OF AT LEAST 500 PEOPLE.
