The fact Hillingdon Borough were playing this afternoon is fantastic and something to celebrate as only as recently as January it was announced by the club they would be pulling out of the Spartan South Midlands League due to lack of support. Luckily they were able to carry on with thanks to Everton star Yannick Bolasie (an ex player) who contacted them with a morale boosting phone call and support. It's great to see the DR Congo International not forgetting his roots and in turn Boro continue on playing.
Today seventh placed Boro visited bottom of the table Arlesey Town Reserves who going into this game had only won two games in their thiry-five played - Their last league win came back on Wednesday 2nd November when Bedford were defeated 3-0 with their only other victory coming on Wednesday 10th October when Codicote were beaten 3-1. Since the Bedford win they have only picked up one point (1-1 versus Winslow United in January) from a possible fifty one on offer. The Middlesex side had won four of their last six games and today's game went the way of the form book as a goal in either half recorded a 0-2 win for them. Although the game was a little scrappy and forgettable it was great to see a decent club who were on the brink of closure in action today. Some match photos are below.
Arlesey Town Reserves plugged away and played football the right way but never really troubled the Hillingdon goal-keeper. They visit Hadley Wood and Wingate in their next game on Saturday 8th April. It would be great to see them pick up at least one win in their remaining which will be tough as two of those come against table topper's Biggleswade FC who beat them 2-9 in January and a revitalised Brimsdown who smashed them 12-1 at the end of February.
If you are local to Hillingdon why not pop down to The Middlesex Stadium - your club needs your support. They only have one remaining home game which comes against Southall on Tuesday 18th April. They have trips to Kensington Borough, Wodson Park, Harefield United, Buckingham Athletic and Codicote also to play.
They also have the final of the Middlesex Premier Cup on Wednesday 26th April when they face local rival's Broadfields United at Northwood FC.
