The Essex Senior League season started for Clapton at the end of July with a massive crowd of 421 seeing their home league local derby game against Tower Hamlets and then averaged 366 up until their home game in the Essex Senior League Cup to Hullbridge Sports at the beginning of December when just 21 people went through The Old Spotted Dog turnstiles.
Last night The Ton's proudly went top of the Essex Senior League with a 4-1 win over Haringey and Waltham Development in front of only 17 people.

The reason for sudden drop in attendances is The Clapton Ultras fan group has been boycotting games since the beginning of December in protest of the current running of club which they as loyal supporters want more of a say in - they have called a meeting with Chief Executive Vince McBean to discuss various issues which has yet to take place. It's covered more here by an article posted on the Clapton Ultras website.
Clapton's next home game is on Saturday when Redbridge visit E7 for a league where the fan's boycott will continue. The next time The Ultras will get to support their team in person will be on Saturday 21st January when they travel to play currently bottom of the table Burnham Ramblers.
Although they are currently top of the table it's second placed Barking who are still considered strong favourites for the title as they are only a point behind with five games in hand over both Clapton and third placed Southend Manor.
It's looking to be The Ton's most successful season in respect of league position in their recent history. Since joining the ESL in 2006 after ending their 100 year association with The Isthmian League they have finished in 14th, 11th, 16th (of 16), 16th, 17th (of 17), 17th, 18th, 10th, 8th and 7th.
The game on Saturday 28th January between Clapton and Barking is huge and very much a must win game for the home side - the only question is will the loyal fans be back inside The Old Spotted Dog in their vast numbers watching and cheering on their team?
