THE GREAT ESCAPE IS ON FOR THE WANDS

It had been a miserable Ryman Division One (North) season for London's oldest football club Cray Wanderers up until the middle part of March. They had won just four league games in the thirty-six they had played including two against fellow struggler's Barkingside and Burnham Ramblers which saw The Wands looking at a second successive relegation in as many seasons. Unbelievably they have since won six games in a row scoring fifteen goals and letting in just two in the process. Their goals conceded per game ratio has changed from 2.25 to just 0.33!! One of these wins came away 0-2 at title challenger's Harlow Town.

Experienced midfielder Chris Piper who has played for both Tonbridge Angels and Maidstone United this season has scored four goals in the six game run. Piper counts Dagenham and Redbridge, Braintree Town, Fisher Athletic and Farnborough amonngst the clubs he has also represented. Another former Angel in Alex Teniola (who played four times for Enfield Town earlier in the season) has also scored twice for them and another ex Towner Moses Ashikodi (who made a handful of appearances in the 2013/14 season) has also netted once.

The Wands last four games come away at Brightlingsea Regent on Saturday, two home games versus Waltham Abbey (14/4) and Tilbury (18/4) and then finally away at Dereham Town. Could they make it ten wins in a row???

The club lost it's planning application to build a new home at Sandy Lane last year. It now has hopes to move to and develop the Flamingo Park area. The plan is to build a new stadium for Cray Wanderers along with a local community hub and a redeveloped night-club which is already operated from the location.
