It was top of the table clash at Herns Lane as Welwyn Garden City entertained Sun Postal Sports in the Spartan South Midlands League Division One on Wednesday night. Both clubs under new management for the 2013/14 season have been doing really well but it was Adam Fisher's Citizen's side who ran out winners with a very impressive 4-1 victory after going 0-1 down very early on in the game. It's good to see Welwyn on the up on the field as well as off it, with a thriving social club and many events planned in the coming months. The Cold End was impressed with their young goalkeeper Joe Croft. Although not the biggest in stature he is excellent in the air, a good shot stopper and is brave in coming out for the ball diving at opposing player's feet. I predict good things for him in the future.
An indication that some local football fans are going back to Herns Lane to see a good side play some decent football is in the crowd of 59 people on Wednesday night. Although only small it is well up on the 20 who watched the Sun Postal home game last season. An amazing increase of nearly 200%!!
