FC CORNERSTONE LIFT THE BENEVOLENT SHIELD

Match played on Thursday 18th April 2013

The final of the North and Mid Hertfordshire Football League's Benevolent Shield was played last Thursday at London Colney's Cotlandswick between FC Cornerstone and Tansley. Both teams were in the fight for the league championship with St Ippolyts and this showed in the final which was a close but scrappy affair with little to chose between the two sides. Neither goalkeeper was really busy throughout the ninety minutes with Adam Pennington's first half goal separating the two sides. Tansley put in some really tough challenges in the second half with one player booked for a very late tackle that arguably should of been red as you'll see from the video footage.

Tansley (reformed for this 2012/13 season) are currently top and what a game there is in prospect tomorrow afternoon as they take on second placed St Ippolyts in a real title decider. Win the game and it's Tansley's title but lose and they will have to beat FC Letchworth in their final game on Saturday 4th May and hope St Ippolyts drop points against Warriors XI. FC Cornerstone still have an outside chance of finishing runners up but can't win the title due to the point(s) Tansley or St Ippolyts will win tomorrow.

NORTH AND MID HERTS FOOTBALL LEAGUE - CURRENT TABLE
TOP THREE ONLY
TEAMPWGDPTSPP
TANSLEY 14 12 +51 37 43
ST IPPOLYTS 14 12 +33 36 42
FC CORNERSTONE 15 11 +62 34 37

At the bottom of the table Buntingford Cougars who are a successful youth football club entered an adult team in the league for the first time this season and had a real nightmare start losing 0-14, 0-15, 3-4, 0-7, 0-14, 0-15 and 2-13 in their first seven league games. Things have improved towards the end of the season as they have recently lost only 1-2, 0-1 and 0-1. Despite not recording a victory yet i'm sure these results felt like wins especially the 0-1 versus Tansley who had previously beaten them 11-1 (in the Greg Cup) and 15-0!!!
