Take a quick glance at the Essex Senior League table and it appears it's almost down to a two horse race between Burnham Ramblers and Great Wakering Rovers for the title. However, there are teams further down the the table who could still get involved. Two examples are -
1) If Takeley (3rd place) win the two games in hand they have over Great Wakering Rovers they will move one point ahead of them.
2) If Barkingside (down in 8th) win the four games in hand they have over Burnham it would put them six points away from them.
This is, of course, if Burnham and Great Wakering Rovers keep winning. The three points deducted from Takeley's total (following the 5-4 win over Sawbridgeworth Town on the 7th August in which they fielded an ineligible player) could prove pivotal to their title ambitions.
Burnham Ramblers and Barkingside are the teams with the least amount of defeats on three each. Barkingside's loses have come at London Bari and at home to Basildon United and Southend Manor. The Ramblers have been defeated on the first day of the season at Enfield 1893 and at home to Eton Manor and Bethnal Green United.
Enfield 1893 (7), Sawbridgeworth Town (8) and Bethnal Green United (7) have probably lost too many games already to get involved in the title race. As you can see the average loss percentage over the last fifteen seasons is 10.07% (Lowest - 3.85%. Highest - 20.00%) so even if they win the remainder of their games it would put them on 19.44% (7) and 22.22% (8) which has been done only once in 2001 when Brentwood won the league title. TheColdEnd is here to be proved wrong of course!
Along with an outside chance of the league title Town's neighbours Enfield 1893 still have an opportunity of lifting a trophy in The Gordon Brasted Memorial Trophy. They are in the semi-finals along with Barkingside, Burnham Ramblers and London Bari.

Dan Trenkel's Great Wakering Rovers have had a couple of bed results of late drawing at Stansted (the player-manager scored a late equaliser to make it 2-2) and losing at home to London Bari last Saturday. The East Londoners have played Rovers four times now this season and recorded three wins and a draw. Rovers play 'away' versus Basildon United tomorrow afternoon in a game which has been switched to Burroughs Park due to pitch problems at Gardiners Close. The Bees are now managed by Bertie Brayley who was born in the town in 1981. He is, of course, well known to non-league football fans in the local area having played for numerous sides in his career. Incredibly he is the sixth manager to sit in the hot seat at Basildon this season!! He follows in the footsteps of Bobby Barnes, John Higley, John Mifsud, John Hinds and Chris Auger.
If Burnham Ramblers do win the the league it'll be the first time they have done so despite being members of the ESL since 1985. The nearest they came to winning the title was a memorable season for Enfield Town fans in 2004/05 when we pipped the Ramblers to title and promotion by just one point!
KEY UPCOMING GAMES
Saturday 16th February
London Bari v Takeley
6th v 3rd in the table. Neither side can really afford to lose this game. Definitely a must win for the away side should they want to get involved in the title mix up.
Monday 18th February
Barkingside v Great Wakering Rovers
Difficult away trip for Rovers and another real must win game for both sides should they want to keep the pressure up on Burnham Ramblers.
Saturday 23rd February
Sawbridgeworth Town v Burnham Ramblers
Tough journey to Crofers End for the league leaders.
Saturday 2nd March
Burnham Ramblers v Takeley
Top of the table clash. The result here could have a real bearing on the league title.
Tuesday 5th March
Clapton v London Bari
Not a top of the table clash but a real ding-dong East London derby played at The Old Spotted Dog ground where Bari groundshare. Could be a really decent game?
Stansted v Takeley
Another local game on the same night. THE AIRPORT DERBY!
Saturday 23rd March
Could be an important day in the race for the league title.
Barkingside v Burnham Ramblers
Great Wakering Rovers v Takeley
Saturday 20th April
*** POTENTIAL TITLE DECIDER ***
Burnham Ramblers v Great Wakering Rovers
Saturday 27th April
FINAL DAY OF THE ESSEX SENIOR LEAGUE SEASON
Barking v Great Wakering Rovers
Basildon United v Barkingside
Enfield 1893 v Sporting Bengal United
London APSA v Clapton
London Bari v Burnham Ramblers
Sawbridgeworth Town v Southend Manor
Stansted v Bethnal Green United
Takeley v Haringey and Waltham Development
If either Burnham Ramblers or Great Wakering Rovers need a win on the final day of the season both have tough away trips at London Bari and Barking. There is definitely alot of football to be played over the next few months and it may edge on the result of the game between the two on Saturday 20th April.
